US Special Envoy for Serbia-Kosovo Negotiations Richard Grenell, US Development Finance Corporation Executive Director Adam Bohler, US Ambassador to Serbia Anthony Godfrey, and Serbian Chambers of Commerce and Kosovo, Marko Chadez and Berat Rukici, agreed in a press conference after the meeting. in Belgrade, that the Washington accord was a turning point, because the focus of policy turned to economic development and job creation, all of which will bring stability to the region.

The talks between the Serbian, Kosovo Chambers of Commerce and the American Development Finance Corporation were held at the residence of the US Ambassador in Belgrade.

Richard Grenell said that “we are here because (US President) Donald Trump believed in the private sector, to put the economy in the foreground and the emphasis on employment.”

“Many promises have been made to the people of Serbia, and we want you to hold us accountable for this … We believe in the power of the private sector, we have people in the United States like Adam Boler, who came from the private sector, brought this innovation. The government needs to understand how the economy can prosper. The government does not create jobs, the private sector does, “Grenel said.

“What we have done in Washington looks great and is great, but we haven’t finished the job. Let the people of Serbia hold us accountable that words on paper are not enough, until jobs are created and families are stay in this region and open the way for other new families, “he added.

The US ambassador affirmed that today’s meeting of delegations is a sign of the strength of the Washington agreements, which were signed at the White House.

“Now they have reached a new agreement to improve trade, communications and improve the standard of living of the people of the region,” Godfrey said.

Marko Cadez said that a joint action team was established today, “not Pristina and Belgrade individually, but a joint team,” which will support the implementation of exactly what was signed in Washington, “to see how the private sector can help the realization”.

Berat Rukići, president of the Kosovo Chamber of Commerce, emphasized that “after a long time, we can talk about business in Belgrade and Pristina, because numerous political issues flooded us, they did not bring benefits to the region, they did not create jobs.”

“There is a momentum for both parties to work together, to create new jobs and create new projects that will improve life and the economy in the region,” Rukici said.

Adam Bohler noted that “this is the first joint statement by the Belgrade and Pristina officials,” stating that they “want to pay tribute to Kosovo and Serbia for deciding on the people and not on politics.”

He added that if “we give strength to the economic sector, as we did today, this region will grow and will be a driving force for the private sector.”

He reiterated that today a team was created, a working group that will be focused on what is the realization of the Washington Agreement, and that refers to the areas of infrastructure, IT, digitization, energy …

“While we’re talking here, part of the US delegation is talking to companies about specific projects,” Bohler said, adding that part of those conversations were, among other things, related to infrastructure and part to stagnant areas due to covids, such as air and commercial connections.

At the end of the joint statements, the first during the US delegation’s two-day visit to Serbia, Čadež and Rukići shook hands cordially.
