The professor at the Faculty of Orthodox Theology Rodoljub Kubat was fired today, Danas has learned. Contrary to the Law on Higher Education and the Statute of the University of Belgrade, the Synod of the Serbian Orthodox Church is the one who made the dismissal decision and handed it over to the professor through the dean of the PBF, Zoran Ranković.
The document given to him, to which Danas had access, does not indicate the reasons why Kubat is prohibited from continuing to work. Previously, the Synod of the Serbian Orthodox Church took away the teacher’s blessing to teach, also without explanation. Kubat had no idea of the Synod’s decision, but recently the dean of the faculty read to him, stating that he says the professor “damages the reputation of the Serbian Orthodox Church and the faculty itself,” but not how.
Rodoljub Kubat says for Danas that he informed the rector Ivanka Popović and the ombudsman about this, and that he will press criminal charges against the dean of the PBF for psychological harassment.
The academic and former vice-rector of BU, Dušan Teodorović, evaluated for Danas that this decision is a scandal and an inadmissible interference of the Serbian Orthodox Church in the work of the faculty.
– Let the Serbian Orthodox Church decide whether it will respect the law and the statute of the University, because this is beyond all regulations, or go beyond the framework of the BU, obtain accreditation and become an independent faculty . Now it is the turn of the rectory to protect the professor from serious violations of the law and interference by the Serbian Orthodox Church, says Teodorović.
Professor Rodoljub Kubat has repeatedly insisted before the Council for Scientific Teaching of the Faculty of Theology to shed light, and not push under the rug, numerous scandals that the Faculty has been facing for years, mainly violations for which it is suspected that the vice-dean Vladimir Vukašinović, as well as the recent case of the vicar bishop Stefan Saric, suspected of organizing the kidnapping of a student for being in a relationship with the same girl.
– I asked the faculty to appeal to the Prosecutor’s Office and relevant institutions to process these cases as soon as possible. Organize a commission within the faculty to deal with these matters. We all suffer from it, and the faculty and the Church are getting muddy and slipping through the media day by day. If they are not guilty, let the story end. If so, they should respond. Procrastination does not suit anyone – Kubat told our newspaper.
He is convinced that behind the dismissal he was handed over is Bishop Irinej Bački, “the patriarch of the shadows” who makes decisions on behalf of Patriarch Irinej, but often also of the Synod himself.
PBF Dean Zoran Ranković responded to Danas’ questions about Professor Kubat’s case with “I have no comment.”
