The article of the ecclesiastical constitution that regulates this situation explains that “the presidential duties of the patriarch in the Holy Synod of Bishops and the Synod are carried out by the oldest member of the Synod: the metropolitan, that is, the oldest consecrated bishop, if there is no metropolitan “.
While the patriarchal throne is exercised, as prescribed by the Constitution of the Serbian Orthodox Church, “as a general rule, the regulations, decrees and decisions of the Church cannot be approved in principle.”
In the current composition of the Synod, the only Metropolitan is Metropolitan Chrysostom (Jević) of Dabro-Bosnia.
