Singing for Christmas in churches and other places will be banned in Switzerland due to the threat of the spread of the corona virus, and the government, under European pressure, decided today to limit the capacities in the cabins that transport skiers.

France and Germany advocate for the closure of the mechanical transport of skiers to avoid a new spread of the infection, which is not accepted in Switzerland.

Amid the resurgence of the kovida-19 epidemic, the Swiss federal government finally decided today to leave the ski resorts open but limit the transport capacity of skiers.

“There is no general capacity limit in ski resorts. However, in all closed means of transport, such as trains, cabins or cable cars, only two-thirds of the seats can be occupied,” said the government.

Seating and standing restrictions apply. In addition, protection plans should be developed on trails and winter resorts. The government requires that the distance between people be respected at all times.

Many French-speaking cantons in the west of the country, heavily affected by the second wave of the pandemic, introduced restrictions that made it possible to avoid overloading hospitals.

The epidemic is now spreading in the German-speaking area in the central and eastern part of the country, where very little action has been taken.

Health Minister Alain Berce said that they have an asymmetric spread of the infection in the country and welcomed the fact that the number of cases of the infection is decreasing in places where significant measures have been taken.

He said the cantons where the infection is growing will be contacted quickly to order them to take immediate action, because that ultimately puts the entire country in danger.

He said that in general, the country registers a clear decrease in the number of new cases and that the curve has stabilized, although at a very high level of the daily number of new infected. He said that the situation is not developing as they want and presented new measures.

From December 9 until further notice, large stores should plan ten square meters per visitor, compared to four square meters today.

In hotels throughout Switzerland it will be necessary to collect the data of at least one guest in the group, as is already being done in several cantons.

On New Years Eve, catering facilities may close at 1:00 a.m.

And finally, singing is prohibited outside the family circle and in school, both inside and outside. This prohibition not only applies to choirs, but also to singing during religious services and certain traditions for the New Year.

In addition, Switzerland announced today a new expanded list of high-risk countries whose citizens, as of December 14, as possible carriers of the corona virus, will have to be in quarantine for ten days upon arrival in Switzerland. Serbia is also on that list.
