The epidemiologist, retired professor at the Faculty of Medicine, Zoran Radovanović, stated that “the supposed weakening of the coronavirus is a great mistake”, as well as ignorance and unfounded desire are two reasons for its occurrence and persistent maintenance.

“The lethality of the virus has not changed, but its ability to transmit itself unhindered, which is due to anti-epidemic measures,” Radovanovic told Blic, when asked how real the danger from the virus is now and how much it has actually weakened. .

As he said, “defenders of the thesis on the virus stumble abandoned their vision when, towards the end of this wave of the epidemic, data began to arrive on massive deaths in the nursing home in Nis.”

“Since we have cleared that bias, let’s move on to the answer: The real danger is much less today than it was a few weeks ago, but it has not happened. The further development of events depends on the patience and wisdom of decision makers.” Radovanovic explained.

He claimed that “for weeks, life was almost completely dead, so neither the Serb nor a much stronger economy can last long.”

“Returning to the usual path is inevitable. The only thing that matters is that the relaxation of the measures is gradual and that some of them last at least until the beginning of June,” said Radovanovic.

He warned that “the oldest part of the population must remain vigilant until the number of new patients drops to zero or at least less than five to ten people.”

“Attention is mainly related to maintaining physical distance and washing hands. It would be good if those habits become a permanent norm,” Radovanović emphasized.

When asked what bothered him the most in these two months, he said it was the beginning and the end.

“The beginning is due to the mockery of the looming threat, and the end is due to the beginning of ‘we will do it easily’, embodied in the sudden loosening of the discipline,” Radovanović said.
