The storm at REM does not abate: Did Zekić’s election violate the Code of Conduct?

The day after Slobodan Cvejić resigned as a member of REM, and the newly elected president of that body, Olivera Zekić, said that there was nothing illegal in her election, another member announced: Judita Popović. Says there was a hit at REM. The reversal movement seeks a reaction from Europe and BIRODI asks if the Code of Conduct for REM Council members has been violated.

Without turning off the light, REM dragged us into the REM phase, because the consequences of the last decisions are closer to an ugly dream, than to an objective reality, on which that body should insist. REM member Judita Popović will not resign as Slobodan Cvejić, although she agrees with him that the election of Olivera Zekić as president, he explains, represents an illegal takeover of REM by the majority, and they should be equal.

“It was not an election, it was a coup, completely ad hoc, on the initiative of a group within the REM Council, which means that it cannot be legal, it is not in accordance with the law. And we aimed at that, we proposed another candidate, but they just wanted to finish the job ”, lies Judita Popović.

And because of the work done in this way, the Reversal Movement decided to rename that body by pasting a table in the REM entry.

Veselinović says that with the election of Zekić, the government mocks the citizens and the media, but also violates the principles agreed with the MEPs from the previous dialogue.

I invite Bilchik, Fajon, McAllister and other gentlemen from the EU to come to Serbia, not in three months, but immediately, to see what the media scene is like, who runs the regulatory body and what is happening in REM and what it’s happening. on televisions with national frequency, to see if anything promised has been agreed, ”said Janko Veselinović of the Movement for Change.

Judita Popović explains that the item on the election of the EMN president was not announced before, but that it was included in the amendment to the agenda, and that the proposal of another candidate was not even raised. They also wonder why the presidential candidate did not present his program, as well as by what criteria the candidate was scored.

“The fact that the election of the president and vice president was made within an additional point of the agenda, in a non-competitive procedure, without the presence of all the members of the REM Council, with a candidate for the vacant positions, represents a potential violation of the REM Council Code of Conduct. the way elections are organized violates article 1, which regulates integrity, and article 2, which is dedicated to objectivity, independence and impartiality, ”said BIRODI.

In a written statement to H1, the new president, Olivera Zekić, said that she saw nothing contrary to the law and normal and democratic principles in her election, and that nothing was planned in advance. So should we stay in REM phase?
