The stench was unbearable! Vesna covered her brother like nothing, and when they found her, she was in a half-broken state.

Her brother S. (55), who is a person with a disability, also lived in the same house, so whenever they asked him where Vesna was and if they could see her, they would receive a short reply from him that their sister was ill and lying down.

Neighbors then alerted authorities and it was quickly discovered that the woman had been dead in her room for two months and that her brother had been persistently hiding her.

– I know that family and I know their situation well. They are a social case and Vesna took care of her brother. She was a friendly woman and used to go with the neighbors for coffee and some cigarettes. His brother, although with difficulties, was also nice, never aggressive, he worked as a janitor in our soccer club, he volunteered more, just enough to have a hobby. So on Friday I was on the playground when I came with a fellow firefighter to his house. I thumped and screamed, but Vesna didn’t respond. The windows and doors were closed. We break into the house and get to his room. It was blocked. We also broke the handle, but we found that the door was also tied to something inside, so it couldn’t be entered, so we ripped it off as well. When we entered his room, we saw horror. She lay covered in bed, already in a half-decomposed state. The stench was unbearable. The room was a mess, garbage and dirt. We called the police – says Đuro Molnar de Batina.

They found Vesna’s brother on the playground.

– I asked her where Vesna was and she said she slept at home. I told her to stop lying because we broke into the house and found her dead. I asked him what he had done to her and he started crying and he told me that she died a natural death in July, he was in shock and very scared when he saw her, he did not know what to do and he just covered her. and closed the door. Then he started yelling “I want to go to jail now, I don’t want to go to jail” and he started running away. According to the locals, Vesna’s brother is not dangerous for the environment; He’s well socialized, he knows how to take care of himself, until three years ago he lived with his older brother who died in the hospital, and then two years ago Vesna moved out.

– He has three brothers and half sister Vesna. She was married, she lived in Serbia and before moving there she committed some embezzlement in Croatia and for that she was sentenced to prison. He served his sentence and returned to Batin. She took care of Stephen. She never said that the two were arguing or had problems. She was receiving welfare and he was not. They each had their own room and he spent most of his days on the playground, neighbors say.

Osijek police say the body of the dead woman was transported to the pathology department to determine the exact cause of death.
