The special department of the Belgrade High Court for the fight against corruption and organized crime rejected the accusation against the vice president of the People’s Party, Borislav Novakovic, referring to the legal principle that no one can be accused twice for the same act (” Ne bis in idem “), they told Beti. on Novakovic’s legal team.
The Belgrade Superior Prosecutor’s Office initiated a process against Novakovic for abusing his official position during the construction of the Boulevard de Europa in Novi Sad from 2009 to 2011, at a time when Novakovic was the director of the Novi Sad public company “Institute for the construction of the city “.
The proceedings against Novaković were previously suspended due to the same matter in the Court of Misdemeanors, which is the reason for the decision of the Special Court, because it is not possible to initiate two proceedings for the same fact.
The court found Dragana Zivkovic, who was sentenced to two years in prison, and Zoran Bojovic, who was sentenced to three years in prison, guilty in the same case. Mirjana Dejanovic was acquitted.
This is a new trial for Novakovic and his associates, because the Belgrade Court of Appeal reversed the first instance verdict, which sentenced Novakovic and the others to prison terms.
As previously announced, they were accused of allowing the construction of roads to be transferred to the company “Transportes Borovica”, although they knew that it did not meet the minimum requirements in terms of equipment and machinery to obtain that position.
