Prime Minister Ana Brnabić, who visited the Ovčar-Kablar gorge and the Ovčar spa today, announced that the road to Požega will be opened to traffic in early 2022, but also that the gorge will be revitalized as a world-class natural asset .
He visited the gorge together with the Minister of Environmental Protection Irena Vujović and the Minister of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunications Tatjana Matić on the occasion of the start of a new project for the layout of the Ovčar-Kablar gorge.
“The construction of the road to Požega will mean that all the traffic in the gorge will move so that we finally have the conditions to do what is already on paper, and that it is a protected area of exceptional characteristics and a first-class natural asset. What you wouldn’t know today when you come here is that, “Brnabić declared.
He recalled that similar things were done with the relocation of traffic from protected areas to some other places, such as in Golubac near the fortress, and today it is one of the most beautiful parts of Serbia and its cultural assets.
“Imagine what we can do here in the Ovčar-Kablar gorge. This is a landscape that is important as a natural asset, but also as a cultural, historical and religious heritage of Serbia, and we are obliged to give it back to nature and citizens.” noted the Prime Minister.
He also recalled that the project started when it was certain that the road to Požega would open in early 2022, and that the goal was to work on the gorge in parallel.
And when the traffic moves, important things will be done here in the gorge, he said.
“I think we will meet here next year in the reconstructed square in Ovčar Banja, we have to finish draining Lake Medjuvrsje and cleaning it, complete two piers on the lake, park, fix the central square, open a natural history museum and more. Significant funds must be invested for tourism, but also for our duty to nature and our cultural heritage, “said Brnabic.
It says that three ministries in charge of tourism, environment and infrastructure will work together on that project, in cooperation with Cacak.
“See you next year, and in 2022 we will have a road to Požega, but also a gorge that will look like a top-notch natural asset,” said the Prime Minister.
