BELGRADE – On the occasion of the murder of three people and a child in Leskovac in May 2020, the Protector of Citizens identified numerous omissions in the work of the social work centers in Bojnik and Leskovac, as well as the Ministry of Labor, Employment, Veterans and Social Affairs in the process of protection against violence. and abuse of children from that family, which was in the records of these centers. The Protector of Citizens calls on the Bojnik and Leskovac centers to take measures without delay to eliminate the identified omissions so that similar errors do not occur in the future, but also to determine the personal responsibility of the professional workers and managers in those centers.
The Protector of Citizens requests the competent ministry to ensure that the fact that a child is exposed to violence against another member of the family or a child close to a child is treated as child abuse and neglect, as well as examining the personal responsibility of the ministry employee because he did not take any action. assistance from the center in Bojnik.
The Ministry must inform the Protector of Citizens about the activities carried out within 21 days.
As stated in the statement, the first information on violence and abuse of children in the family was delivered to the Bojnik center in 2011 in the Leskovac General Hospital report, where it was stated that during the examination there were traces of corporal punishment of a child, but nobody did anything. until the tragedy happened.
