Immune Srdja Jankovic said today that people who have contracted the corona virus are still not completely safe.
According to research by Chinese scientists, even those who have recovered from the coronavirus can spread it for a month and a half more after recovery, and Janković tells TV Pink that this is known from early work by Chinese experts.
Jankovic says that fortunately these are the exceptions, not the rule.
– Precisely because it was an exception, it did not affect the determination of the duration of self-isolation. Therefore, it is a general measure that anyone who has had coronavirus should always be protected. We do not know how long immunity lasts and that is why a person who has passed the Kovid-19 should not be considered absolutely safe in the sense of the impossibility of being infected again or leaving the virus in the body – says Jankovic.
It confirms that the virus can be detected in some people even a few weeks after recovery, and this depends on the strength of the immunity and many other factors.
The coronavirus shows the potential to always return, especially when we relax and allow it to find a new foothold in a population that is still a long way from any herd immunity, Jankovic said, answering the question of whether we can expect a new wave of coronavirus in Serbia.
– We must constantly protect ourselves, but we must also live life – says Janković.
When asked what is expected when a virus collides with seasonal flu, the immunologist highlights that there are mitigating circumstances: the flu vaccine, as well as the epidemiological measures that are in force due to the Kovida-19 pandemic.
– Therefore, we can hope that prevention against coronavirus will also work against seasonal flu – explains Janković.
It also says that the pandemic will not stop on its own and we cannot trust the natural process.
– Thinking that everything will pass by itself and surrender means sacrificing a large number of lives, which is ethically completely unacceptable. That is why there is no alternative to the implementation of everything that is within our reach, that is, measures to reduce the number of people who will be infected, and therefore those who will be more seriously ill or will die – concludes the immunologist.
It points out that we must all become aware that we are in the moment of one of the most dangerous pandemics that humanity has ever suffered and in the midst of a situation that is new to all.
“I don’t think there are many who remember the 1918 pandemic, which was for most of us before we were born, and that is why it is a new situation we have to live with,” says Janković.
