The Podgorica High Court approved the extradition of Ivan Kontić (30) from Nikšić to the Serbian authorities in order to carry out legal proceedings before the Novi Sad High Court for the attempted murder of 28-year-old Miljan M.

“The extrajudicial panel approved the extradition of the IC in an abbreviated procedure,” Muzurovic told Pobjeda de Montenegro.

He clarified that Kontić cannot be extradited to the Serbian authorities before the decision to approve the extradition is final.

“We have the right to appeal this decision to the Court of Appeals within three days,” Muzurovic specified.

Under the abbreviated procedure for making a decision on extradition, the High Court issues a decision that does not need to be confirmed by the Minister of Justice, as is done in the ordinary procedure for deciding on extradition.

Extradition can be carried out under the abbreviated procedure after the Superior Court’s decision is final.

Immediately after the arrest, Kontić gave his consent for the extradition to be carried out according to an abbreviated procedure, of which Serbia was informed.

He acceded to the investigating judge of the High Court, who ordered his arrest in extradition, to be extradited to Serbia through an abbreviated procedure, Kontić then explained that his intention was to present all the facts in Serbia and show that the classification of the crime could not be the assassination attempt, according to the Novi Sad Superior Prosecutor’s Office, is much milder.

He also said that he was ready to walk to Serbia to truthfully and clearly present the facts and circumstances under which the event took place in court there.

Four weeks after the moment the international arrest warrant was issued against him, Kontić was arrested in a rented apartment in the Podgorica neighborhood of Zabjelo.

The Serbian Ministry of Justice sent the Montenegrin authorities an extradition request for Kontić, together with the accompanying documentation.

A video of the brutal beating of Miljan M. appeared on social media the night of September 11. The public was shocked by the images of the brutal violence when an unidentified perpetrator struck an unconscious guy. As can be seen in the video, bystanders and security tried to separate him from the victim, but without success.

Chaos ensued later, when the attacker turned the beaten man upside down and broke his arms. The cause of the brutal beating has not been disclosed to the public to date. The day after the video was posted, the identity of the bully was revealed: Ivan Kontić, who was not in Serbia.

The suspicion that Kontić was hiding in Montenegro was confirmed on October 11, when the Podgorica media announced that he had been arrested.
