The conflict at the top of the Serbian Progressive Party is even deeper than it appears, it is claimed in political circles.
The conflict within the Serbian Progressive Party between Aleksandar Vučić and Nebojša Stefanović runs deeper than it seems, even with the current series of scandals unfolding in the tabloids, it is asserted in political and security circles.
The escalation of the conflict between the two currents indicates that the “circle tightens” around Defense Minister Stefanović and leads to his definitive fall from the position of power within the party, and the question is whether he will use the security services to “fight back. “, which would lead to further divided damage to the Vučić regime.
Thus, the interlocutors of Danas value the most shocking events of the present time, such as the interrogation of the former Secretary of State of the Interior Ministry, Dijana Hrkalović, as part of the confrontation with the criminal group around the followers of Partizan Veljko Belivuk.
They also note that the escalation started with the “Jovanjica” affair, while Stefanović was the Minister of Police, when Vučić’s brother contacted the detained owner of the property where marijuana was grown.
Stefanović’s power and influence have undoubtedly been weakening for some time, and the transfers from the post of Minister of Police to the Ministry of Defense are visible after the June elections.
This is supported by the holding of the SNS Presidency session without his presence, speculation that Aleksandar Šapić will take over the leadership of the capital to “dismiss” the people of Stefanović, as Stefanović is the head of the Belgrade party committee. . .
The Main Board announced for April or May, Vučić’s emphasis that this body has 600 people, as well as the electoral assemblies for September, are a possible epilogue in which Stefanović will calmly agree to retire as Tomislav Nikolić in 2017, or there will be a serious division in SNS, since that party was formed in 2008.
The answer to the question of whether Stefanovic “decided to fight”, as the opposition claimed him in the middle of the “Krushik” affair, may be yesterday’s announcement, given the day when all the tabloid covers carry articles on the issue of “coup” and that is part of the SNS ready to overthrow Vučić, as well as speculation that Slaviša Kokeza, the FSS president, supposedly saw himself as prime minister.
The Ministry of Defense announced that “the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Dr. Nebojsa Stefanovic attended the periodic annual consultations of the defense envoys of the Republic of Serbia, where he was informed about the most important processes and phenomena in the recipient countries that affect the security and interests of Serbia. “
The statement further says that Serbia’s position is sensitive due to efforts to preserve military neutrality and territorial integrity, and that accession to the EU remains the top state priority.
“One of the important tasks of the defense delegations is to support the Serbian defense industry, as a very important factor in the economy of our country,” the statement concluded, adding that the meeting was attended by Defense Inspector General Slavoljub Dabic and the Director of Brigadier General Zoran Stojkovic of the Military Intelligence Agency.
In addition, a new daily tabloid “Objektiv” was recently launched, which is linked to Stefanović.
The political scientist Cvijetin Milivojevic says for Danas that from everything we have seen so far, it is clear that Nebojsa Stefanovic will no longer be what was expected of him, that is, the successor of Vucic at the head of the party, and that the question is in what direction. this conflict will develop further.
– It is obvious that those scandals related to the name of Stefanović have accumulated, starting with that diploma and doctorate, going through “Krušik” and the sale of weapons, in which I believe that Vučić was instructed and that it was a kind state business. But you relations between them have become too personal, that is never good, says Milivojevic.
In support of the fact that Stefanović is no longer a “competitor” for the party leadership, but also that his power in the party is diminishing, the fact that the last session of the SNS Presidency, held while he was in the foreigner, either on an official visit to the United Arab Emirates.
Milivojevic claims that the “downfall of Stefanovic” can be seen since he was transferred from the post of Minister of Police to the head of the Defense Ministry, and that that choice “Vucic as the real designated prime minister” did “Satisfy Washington’s order to keep Stefanovic in government “. Not at will.
Stefanovic has already “finished” the formation of the new government, recalls Miroslav Aleksic, vice president of the Popular Party, who publicly initiated the “Jovanjica” affair.
Aleksic points out for Danas that “there is an escalation of open conflict of currents within the SNS” and that many members of the ruling party would like to speak out against Nebojsa Stefanovic, to “draw his robot photo” when talking about attacks on President Vucic , wiretaps and assassination attempts, but they still “have no warrant” to mark the name of the Minister of Defense because he is still the coordinator of the security services, “he did nothing alone, and he certainly has material that could harm Vučić” , as Aleksić concludes.
– It seems to me that close associates of Vučić, who is their undisputed leader, have taken up more space than he was willing to allow and now Vučić feels threatened, as if his position is no longer untouchable. For now, everything is still a game: the cat surrounds you and the “cat” approaches Nebojsa Stefanovic. One must not be naive and think that this will be easily solved because people in such positions do not sit idly by, if any data release is initiated, we must not forget that someone who was in the position of Minister of Police operated the apparatus more powerful. says journalist Djordje from Danas Vlajic.
