Sun, rain, sleet, snowflakes and wind, wind, wind – this is how the weather forecast for December could be briefly described.

Although at the end of October, the world, as well as our meteorologists, announced that one of the harshest winters would follow, or at least significantly colder than the previous two or three, apparently that won’t happen until later this year.

And we will see the New Year’s snow fairy tale only in the mountains, that is, in the photos, for those who stay at home.

According to the forecast of the Hydrometeorological Institute of the Republic (RHMZ), today, after a moderate climate, weather is mostly expected in most of our country, and temperatures will range between -6 and 6 degrees.

As noted by meteorologist Dragan Đurić, light frosts are expected only tomorrow, and then the morning forecasts will increase. Starting Friday, the weather will be noticeably warmer, and over the weekend, the mercury in the thermometer will hit division 16. In the next seven to ten days, there is no real snow in sight.

Characteristic in the following period is the wave of strong southeast wind blowing in the Košava area, and according to meteorologists’ announcements, the weakening of the Košava is expected by the end of this week.

However, the weakening of the basket will be short-lived. RHMZ meteorologist Branko Bjelic says that a weak to moderate wind in the Košava area is very likely in the period from December 7 to 18, and on some days even a strong southeast wind.

And as indicated by the long-term weather forecast chart for December, the wind in Belgrade will blow for 22 days this month! And this current “wave” of baskets will last continuously until December 18, and then for another 4 days at the end of December.

Judging by the long-term forecast that RHMZ makes at the beginning and middle of each month, December brings us somewhat warmer weather compared to the second half of November.

Meteorologist Bjelic stands out in the period from December 7 to 14, and even until December 20, he expects warm weather for this time of year.

– Morning temperatures should range between -3 and 4 degrees above zero in the lower regions, while the highest daily temperatures would reach divisions 5 and 11 – says Bjelic.

However, he notes that in the mentioned period, more frequent rainfall is expected in Serbia, mainly rains. Eventually, during the night and in the morning, with the rain, some snowflakes may pass, but without the formation of a layer of snow in the lower areas.

For example, if we look at the monthly forecast charts for cities like Belgrade, Novi Sad, Nis, and Kragujevac, it shows that snowflakes have been announced on certain days until December 20.

– However, next to the snowflake symbol, there is also a dot, which together means that rain, sleet and snow are expected. You can’t describe three weather phenomena with one symbol, says Bjelic.

Since the “dots” prevail over the “snowflakes”, more frequent rains are expected in these cities, which can be accompanied by sleet and snow in the afternoon and in the morning, but the weather is such that it is not advisable to retain the snow Cape.

– In the same period, rain, sleet and snow are expected in the mountains, with only overnight and morning snow in the mountains above 1,200 meters above sea level, leading to short-term formation of a layer of snow that would melt quickly – points out Bjelic.

In the period between December 11 and 20, in mountains above 1,400 meters, such as Zlatibor and Kopaonik, a more frequent appearance of snow is forecast, with the formation and increase of the snow cover. However, if we compare the graphs of these two mountains, unlike Kopaonik in Zlatibor, more frequent changes of rain and snow are expected in that period.

According to Bjelic, temperatures are expected within the multi-year average in this December period. That is, morning temperatures are forecast in the range of -5 to two degrees above zero, while the highest daily temperatures would be 1 to 6 degrees.

– So, it will be cold on average for this time of year. However, on December 22 and 23, rain or sleet would fall in the low areas, while in the morning and at night it would snow with the possible formation of a snow blanket of a few centimeters of snow that would melt during the day, but that could be seen as a phenomenon. – note.

On those two days in December, the capital could finally turn white. While the monthly forecast for Belgrade announces sleet and snow on several occasions during the afternoon and morning hours, it is expected that between December 22 and 23, the snow cover may be short-lived.

Temperatures in the capital would range from -2 to 3, and similar weather is forecast for Novi Sad, Kragujevac and Nis. For example, in those few days for Kopaonik, -9 degrees is forecast, and the highest day will not even be close to zero, while in Zlatibor it is expected to be a few degrees higher.

– In mountainous and mountainous areas, rain and sleet are generally expected, and in areas between 500 and 1000 meters, snow should also fall with the occasional formation of a layer of snow. In the highest mountains, it would only snow with an increase in the height of the snow cover.

Surprising or not, but the monthly forecast outlook indicates that the end of December should mark slightly warmer and mostly dry weather for this time of year.

– Only between 26 and 29. In December, rain or sleet fell in the low areas and sleet or snow in the higher areas, with heavier rainfall forecast around the 27th of the month. Certainly, in the mountains above 1,400 meters, only the snow would fall with an increase in the height of the snow cover, which will be favorable for ski resorts such as Kopaonik, Stara planina – says Bjelic.

It is interesting that the minimum temperatures are forecast for the end of December of -2 to 3 degrees, and the daily maximums of 3 to 8, which is undoubtedly higher than those we had in the previous days.

As it is now, we will not greet this New Year with snowflakes either. That is, the monthly forecast indicates that there should be dry weather in all parts of Serbia during New Year’s Eve.

– However, for now, these are only indications, because that period is far enough away to be claimed with great certainty. Ten days before the New Year, it might be safer to talk about the weather forecast for December 31, concludes meteorologist Bjelic.

In any case, in our highest mountains, New Year’s Eve must be in the spirit of winter magic. And that there is no snow in most of Serbia on December 31, we have already gotten used to that in previous years.
