The tanks must be modernized, so that they can cope with the most modern tanks of their class and of course, we must have the appropriate number of crews so that each of them is useful and usable – said Defense Minister Aleksandar Vulin, after being in the Military Complex “Pasuljanske livade”. He attended design tests and target shooting of the M-84 AS1 advanced tank prototype.
The prototype of the modernized tank under the designation M-84 AS1, according to Minister Vulin, proved that we are on the right track and that our designers have given good ideas.
– We will make great efforts so that all our tanks, at least most of our tanks, are modernized to such a level that they can use ammunition and suitable technical solutions and be able to cope with any tank in our environment. Serbia is a tank force, but it should not only be in terms of numbers, but also in terms of technical solutions and crew, emphasized Minister Vulin.
Speaking about the key segments of the M-84 tank upgrade, the Deputy Minister of Material Resources, Dr. Nenad Miloradovic, said that the modernization of that tank and infantry fighting vehicle are currently the two most important projects to modernize the equipment. of the Serbian Army for the Army.
– Most of the new and modernized types of weapons, which refer to increasing the capabilities of our infantry and artillery units, in terms of development, have already been completed. Now, the zero series is being introduced into the armament, which means that the initial equipping of units is underway, completing the first phase of the Serbian army’s armament renewal. According to Miloradović, the design testing of the modernized M-84 AS1 tank is a very extensive undertaking, including a large number of modernized subsystems added to the tank, the purpose of which is to increase the level of protection of the tank against the most modern types of weapons. anti-tank as well as increasing situational awareness. tank commander.
– In addition to the command-information system and the appropriate computer and communication systems, the tank is also equipped with a new remote-controlled combat station, which gives it a completely new quality in combat and provides a significantly higher level of protection and combat efficiency. We believe that this modernization will significantly increase the capabilities of our armored and mechanized units – emphasizes Miloradović and says that this is not the end of development, because we are working on phase two, marked as a modernized M-84 AS2 tank, which includes several subsystems new ones that will go ahead and significantly improve the capabilities of our tank units.
