The Serbian government has cut: the minimum wage next year will be increased from 30,000 to 32,126 dinars. That’s a 6.6 percent increase from this year’s low, it was announced today at the press conference.

About 350,000 workers who worked this year for a minimum of about 30,000 dinars starting next year will have practically 2,126 more dinars in their wallets.

Finance Minister Siniša Mali said that the price of one hour of work was thus increased from 172.5 dinars to 183.9 dinars, adding that the non-taxable part of the salary would increase in 2021 from 16,300 to 18,300 dinars.

“The state is taking on a total of 8 billion dinars of cargo,” Mali said, adding that the state had saved jobs and that the unemployment rate was at a record low of 7.3 percent.

The minister pointed out that the social partners had a very difficult but constructive dialogue, adding that the attitudes of unions and employers were always contrary, but also that the government made the final decision.

Mali emphasized that despite the economic crisis, the government decided to increase the minimum, because it believes that it is important to preserve the real standard of living of citizens. He stated that inflation is 1.5 percent, so with the increase from the minimum of 6.6 percent, the real increase will be 5.1 percent.

The finance minister recalled that last year the minimum increased by a record 11.1 percent, when the increase was around 3,000 dinars.

No consensus

UGS “Nezavisnost” president Zoran Stojiljković said that there was no consensus in the Economic and Social Council (SES), while the president of the Federation of Independent Trade Unions of Serbia (SSS), Ljubisav Orbović, said that the unions were waiting talks about a minimum wage. minimum wage of 34,000 dinars.

Let us remind you that during the negotiations, the unions repeatedly said that they would not accept a minimum below 34,000 dinars. At the same time, his position is that the minimum price of labor must follow the amount of the minimum consumption basket, which is around 37,000 dinars.

On the other hand, the representatives of the Employers’ Union believe that the economy does not meet the conditions to increase the minimum by more than four to six percent. They assert that if the increase were beyond the real, they would have to seek compensation for that difference, from the point of view of reducing costs for the State.

Since 2010, the state has increased the minimum eight times. It did not accept the union’s demands for an increase in the lowest guaranteed wage in the country in 2014 and 2016. The minimum wage was increased by 11.1 percent (from 27,000 to 30,000 dinars) from January 1 of this year, while in 2019 it increased by 10 percent.
