THE KOSMET PROBLEM SHOULD NOT BE A PREREQUISITE: The Hungarian Foreign Minister is determined: Serbia is a serious state, do not play with it

– It is not fair that this is a precondition and it should not be so – said Sijarto for TV Prva.

Politically, he said, some countries and EU institutions in Brussels consider it a political condition because, as he says, it is a good reference for them, so they would not support the progress of the integration of Serbia, and that is a big problem. .

Sijarto said it was a pity that Serbia did not open any chapters in the accession negotiations this year, and that it was a shame for the EU, and not for Serbia.

– Serbia is a serious country and we should not play with it. The EU should say directly whether we are ready to speed up the negotiations or not – said the head of Hungarian diplomacy.

He reiterated that Hungary is committed to accelerating the European integration of Serbia, because it believes that the EU is interested in Serbia becoming its member, at least as much as Serbia.

Serbia is technically ready to open six new chapters, Sijarto says, adding that he does not understand why the opportunity to speak on more important issues of European integration is being rejected.

He said that for the last time at the EU summit, he raised the question whether there is a legal obstacle whereby Serbia cannot open six chapters, and that he received the answer that it does not exist.

– That means that there is only one political obstacle, and that means that all member states want it, we could open six chapters. The European countries that are supposedly in favor of enlargement and supposedly in favor of the integration of the Western Balkans, should say so clearly – said the head of Hungarian diplomacy.

Speaking of the coronary virus pandemic, Sijarto says that when there is a crisis, the leadership of the EU is lacking.

– All of us, members of the EU, fight to get equipment: masks, devices, respirators in the same market in China, our intermediaries fought, we “fought” over who would take what … It was not there is no coordination from Brussels, because those institutions can manage things to the maximum in peace conditions, but when we have a crisis, there is a lack of leadership from the EU – said Sijarto.
