The Islamic State jihadist group dumped the bodies of the people it kidnapped or captured in a gorge in northeast Syria, says the organization “Human Rights Watch” (HRV).

HRV believes the bodies continue to be dumped at the same location according to the Islamic State government.
They want local authorities to secure the location, remove human remains and retain evidence for criminal prosecution, the BBC reported.
The investigation began after a 2014 video was released showing gunmen throwing dead bodies into the 50-meter-deep Al-Hote gorge.
According to the BBC, more than 20 mass graves with thousands of corpses have been found in Syria, in areas previously occupied by the Islamic State.

Activists, humanitarian workers, journalists and residents who encountered the jihadists are among the missing and are believed to have been killed.
Al-Hota Gorge, located about 85 kilometers north of the former capital of the Islamic State of Raqqa, is a place of spectacular natural beauty, according to the British public service.
While the IDF controlled this area between 2013 and 2015, it became a “place of horror and confrontation,” said Syrian HRV investigator Sara Kajali.
“Finding out the facts about what happened there and in other mass graves in Syria is crucial to reveal the fate of thousands of people executed and hold their killers to account,” he added.
