The President of United Serbia, MP and Speaker of the Jagodina City Assembly, Dragan Markovic Palma, visited the works on the layout of the picnic area in Kocino selo near the famous Kocina oak.

“Every year, the city of Jagodina enriches the tourist offer with new tourist content. This place is a very important town in our history. Here, under this oak tree whose age is estimated at more than 300 years, Captain Koča Andjelković started a revolt against the Turks in 1788 and created “This revolt was the announcement of the final liberation of Serbia from the Turks, which took place thirty years later,” said Markovic, adding:

“The city of Jagodina declared Kočina hrast a natural asset, and it is known that we take great care of the tradition because only those who maintain the tradition preserve the future. That is why we decided to arrange this important historical place so that a large number of tourists who visit Jagodina every year they can visit Kočina hrast, enjoy the beautiful nature, relax next to the Morava, but also learn about the history of this region and the whole of Serbia. That is why we are building more than 500m2 of open and closed space for tourists from the country and abroad “.

Korun Koča Andjelković, a merchant by profession, was the leader of the Serbian volunteers in the war between Austria and Turkey (1788-1791). He founded and directed the so-called Kočina Krajina. Koča hrast is one of the oldest records in Serbia, under which Captain Koča started the revolt. This oak is about 2.50 meters in diameter, while it is 23 meters high, and the diameter of its crown is up to 40 meters. A large number of tourists visit this historical place throughout the year.
