In today’s session, the Government of Serbia adopted a proposal to change the Constitution of the Republic of Serbia in the part that refers to the courts and prosecutors.
The proposal refers to changes in the provisions of article 4 of the Constitution and the provisions relating to the courts and prosecutors (articles 142 to 165). Consequently, the provisions of Article 99 – the competence of the National Assembly, Article 105 – the form of decision-making in the National Assembly and Article 172 – the election and appointment of the judges of the Constitutional Court are changing, announced the Government.
With this initiative, the Government and the Ministry of Justice reaffirmed their firm commitment to implement reform processes and comply with the activities of the revised Chapter 23 Action Plan.
The change of the Constitution by the judiciary is a necessary step to further strengthen the rule of law and further harmonize with the acquis and European standards, the government said.
