Branko S. from the village of Vinci near Golubac drowned in the Danube on Monday afternoon, when he jumped into the river and did not swim.

The body of the unfortunate man was taken out yesterday, after a search of several days, in which divers from the Gendarmerie also participated.

Stojanović, a native of Belgrade, has lived in Vinci for years, where he married and started a family. On the fateful day, he reached the beach. He had previously drunk a liter of brandy in the tavern, for, as they say, problems he could not cope with.

“He was in debt to the core. He also mentioned that he had to go to jail for those debts,” says his acquaintance, adding:

“Visibly drunk and depressed, he jumped into the Danube and did not swim. Other swimmers noticed that he disappeared underwater, and the search began immediately.”

He adds that it is possible that he got sick when he jumped into the Danube when he was drunk and hot from the sun.

“It is also possible that he did it on purpose because of all the problems he had,” says the interlocutor.

Residents of Vinac say that Stojanović lived in their village for a long time.

“He had problems in his marriage, but recently he reconciled with his wife. They have three wonderful children,” say the locals.
