The departure of a great journalist and a great man – Society

At the end of 2020, he bitterly mocked our profession and our humanity: On the night of December 30, Dragan Janjić, one of the founders of the Beta News Agency and the Independent Association of Journalists of Serbia (NUNS), an exceptional journalist and a great editor, a very good man, passed away.

Only those who did not have the luck and honor to work and befriend Janjic do not know the greatness of his talent and dedication, the strength of his character, the selfless energy he wasted and the great patience he had for all those who rushed to conclude.

And especially for the young people in whom he saw hope and a renaissance of journalism.

More than any of his colleagues at Beta and NUNS, Dragan Janjić knew how to find the best solution even at the worst time; one that everyone who started out with maximalist wishes and unrealistic goals is satisfied with.

But even more than that, he was able to say NO clearly and loudly, even when others thought a poor YES was more convenient.

We will remember him as a master of the most difficult journalistic work, in the news, an accurate reporter, and a connoisseur of social and political movements.

And a teacher of many generations who nurtured in the best spirit of journalism.

It requires literacy, a good eye, a clear mind, and high ethics.

Dragan Janjić was born on October 6, 1955 in Lopari, near Tuzla (Bosnia and Herzegovina, Yugoslavia).

He graduated from the Belgrade Faculty of Philology.

He worked for the Tanjug agency (1983-1994), and since 1994 he has been one of the founders of Beta, where he was editor of the internal newsroom, deputy editor-in-chief and editor-in-chief twice.

He was Deputy Minister of Culture and Information (2007/8), then Deputy Chief Director of Politika and media advisor to the Protector of Citizens (2010-2016).

She returned to Beta in 2016, and the New Years message she sent to her colleagues a few hours before her final departure is the best evidence of how much she devoted herself to it: “Beta has remained an undefeated medium and will remain so as long as it exists.” .

No fewer words, no higher votes.

Dragan Janjic was buried on January 3 in the Orlovaca Cemetery in Belgrade, and on January 5 at noon, colleagues, friends and associates will say goodbye to him at the Media Center.

May he have glory and may this difficult country of ours be easy for him.
