The current decrease in the number of infected is not a real situation, we will see the real situation in a week, and there is always the possibility that the situation will get worse, the immunologist and member of the Crisis Staff Srdja Jankovic said today.
He spoke as a guest on the RTS morning show on vaccination and explained that although we have vaccines from two manufacturers in the country, in his opinion it is not so important which vaccine the citizens of Serbia will receive: “Pfizer” or “Sputnik V.”
“My position is that any vaccine that has passed tests, procedures and has proven its efficacy is good,” he said briefly.
He also commented that Serbia did not further test the vaccines that were imported.
– No additional tests are carried out in each country individually, a quality test is carried out – said Janković.
The immunologist explained why both vaccines currently on the Serbian market are received in two doses.
– The minimum interval is three weeks and it is important that the body receives information twice because this is how, say, the effect is intensified. In a sense, immunity receives information twice and understands it as something important and therefore develops a better immune response – he explained.
Jankovic added that the immunity of these vaccines should last at least a few years.
He also explained that the “minimum minimum” of how many people should be vaccinated this year is 20% of people, but that this does not represent the end of vaccination, but only the basic number that would cover risk groups.
The immunologist also explained that if someone receives the vaccine while they are infected with the corona virus, it should not affect their health.
– If the virus exists in the body, a person will surely get sick. Regardless of the vaccine, he said, adding that it is not yet known whether the vaccine would potentially alleviate COVID symptoms.
He also said that in those people who already have antibodies naturally, the vaccine will not do any harm, it could eventually serve as an immune booster.
Let’s avoid all meetings
He commented on and condemned the Red Star fans’ meeting at the Belgrade club’s basketball game yesterday against Turkish Fenerbahce.
“The need for people to return to all that is a normal life is very understandable, but I must appeal to conscience and say that we avoid all meetings,” he said briefly.
When will you stop wearing the mask?
At the end of the visit, he also revealed when he will stop wearing the mask.
– When there are no more sick people in the country, I will remove my mask. At the moment, it is prescribed, and when it was recommended, then I used it to give an example – he concluded.
