At border crossings, customs agents are often faced with attempts to smuggle various goods, among which is always the current wardrobe, especially when crossing from season to season.

Thus, in the last two days, two attempts to smuggle clothing from both original brands and those suspected of originality have been prevented.

Last night, around 8 pm, a van with Bulgarian license plates arrived at the Gradina junction for regular control at the entrance to the country, in which a 28-year-old Bulgarian citizen was traveling as co-pilot.

A Ford Transit van was traveling on the Bulgaria – Germany route, carrying seven passengers, and when the customs officer asked them if they had anything to report, they all replied that they were carrying nothing but personal effects.

The van was then set aside for a detailed inspection during which it was determined that the passenger’s suitcases were full of suspicious clothing from well-known brands. In other words, almost 100 different garments were packed in bags: more than 40 jackets, almost 40 tracksuits and 17 long-sleeved shirts.

The day before, on November 8, 2020, on a bus that arrived at the Horgos border crossing, enough branded clothing had been found to supply a small men’s boutique. The offense was discovered when a bus with a Danish license plate operating on the Copenhagen-Tetovo route was set aside for a detailed inspection at the entrance to our country.

Regardless of the fact that the passengers and drivers present stated that they had nothing to report, at the beginning of the inspection, cardboard boxes full of new clothes were found behind the first row of suitcases, in the trunk.

And that, nothing less and nothing more, than 36 boxes and seven large black bags full of new men’s clothing. Although it was supposedly a shipment that was delivered for transport on the aforementioned bus, they contained up to 800 new men’s jackets, sweatshirts, tracksuits, jeans and t-shirts of the aforementioned brand, obviously destined for later resale.

A misdemeanor proceeding has been started against a 42-year-old citizen of North Macedonia, a bus driver, until the end of which the smuggled clothing will be temporarily detained.
