– The airline ‘Air Serbia’ is a great system, and as a pilot I am very happy and I have a great challenge to make a flight like this, which is, in essence, a challenging flight for us pilots. The flight was prepared with a great team, and we are the last line of defense for a great airline system in conducting a demanding flight. The flight is prepared like any other flight, with greater measures and coverage, security controls, disinfection, preparation for loading the plane. Our plane with which we fly Airbus 330 is a passenger plane that has cargo compartments, but part of the cargo is loaded in the passenger part of the plane – noted the captain – said Captain Svetislav Vranić.

Although he was an experienced pilot, humanitarian flights were of special importance to him.
– Well, they are, because we, as pilots, prepare ourselves every year and go through various trainings and knowledge refreshments, flight controls. This happened suddenly, and most of our pilots did not land at those airports, which require special procedures and knowledge. There is a composition of six pilots in an airplane, and we have three teams, at the head of each team there is an instructor, then an instructor captain, two more captains and co-pilots. The company wants to emphasize the safety aspect, because these are the spaces we don’t fly in, Captain Vranić noted.
Since some flights were more challenging than others, he had to use the A-330 aircraft, which is designed for longer flights.
-This aircraft was manufactured and made for such flights, technically fully equipped with all the necessary equipment to carry out said flight. The organization of the company is important, because when you arrive at the airport and you have not provided fuel, technical support, aircraft maintenance, all this affects the time that the crew remains on the plane, which is not good considering the circumstances – said the captain.
One of the flights was also organized by the A-320 plane, which is smaller, so they had to plan a stopover.
-The company worked with the same principle of crew selection, it was a good flight preparation, with a navigation department. The flight was planned with an intermediate landing in Novosibirsk, due to refueling, Captain Vranić noted.
Nobody remained indifferent, when the flags of China and Serbia waved and when on each package was written “Friends of steel, we share good and evil”.
– It is absolutely like that, and the pilots have call signs in abbreviations during communication and the moment we called Chinese air traffic control, we were surprised when they greeted us with the full name ‘Air Serbia’, they wished us already our people good health and fast pass through this situation. It is really nice, and the welcome at the airport was friendly and you feel in the air, by all the employees, noted the captain.
– In the flight that took place in three sectors, we left the flight in Shanghai and went through all the health checks – said the captain.
When he spoke about the situation at airports due to the state of emergency, he especially praised the Chinese discipline.
– Everyone is very disciplined at all airports in the world, which surprised us in China, everyone wears masks. The doctors who came with us wore masks all summer. In a couple of hours, I will fly to Shanghai, with the medical equipment we need to bring from Shanghai, added Captain Svetislav Vranić.
