After several hours of session, the Board of Directors did not appoint the General Director of RTS

In today’s session, the members of the Board of Directors of Serbian Radio-Television (RTS) did not appoint a new general director of that media house, so Dragan Bujošević remains at the helm as acting director. .

After a deliberation that lasted almost six hours, the members did not agree, as none of the five candidates obtained the required majority of votes, so a new competition was announced, RTS reported.

By the way, today is the deadline for the election between the candidates for general director of RTS, and during the day there was no response from the Board of Directors when the session will be held to discuss it.

According to previous speculation, Dragan Bujošević had the best chance to sit in that chair, although he acquired the conditions for the old-age pension before the expiration of his term. Supporting this was the fact that the previous competition “failed”, when the director was not chosen from two candidates, while Bujošević’s application was rejected because it was not signed. At the same time, that contest was evaluated as a possible purchase of time, after which Bujošević remained in the position of interim director, as his request for an extension of the retirement period was accepted in January this year. After today’s session, that assumption seems even more likely.

However, almost simultaneously with this competition, a competition for new members of the Board of Directors was announced, which the Electronic Media Regulatory Body (REM) should appoint before the end of this week. Thus, practically leaving the Board of Directors, he would choose who will manage the public service for the next five years. Since this competition also failed, the candidates in the next one will be discussed by the new Board of Directors. In that case, it is not easy to predict what might happen. If that composition, according to REM’s decision, changes significantly, there may be surprises in the selection of the head of the public service. However, today’s session also showed that even in the current convocation of the Committee, there is not strong support for a candidate, or at least that’s how it should be seen in public.

Although the mandate of the Board of Directors expires and the election of new members should begin this week, REM has not yet determined or published the list of candidates for those positions, as well as the date of the session in which the future composition of the Board will be discussed. the Board, Danas has learned. So far, the public only knows that one of the candidates is Slobodan Prvanović, an advisor to the Institute of Physics, who spoke about it publicly.

Candidates

In the race for the CEO of RTS, in addition to the current acting director, Dragan Bujosevic, there were four other candidates, whose applications met all the conditions. The list includes Vladimir Palikuca, longtime RTS journalist, Milos Rajkovic, former REM member, Stanislav Veljkovic, RTS general secretary, and Olivera Jovicevic, journalist and author of the “Questionnaire” program, while seven applications were rejected. by incomplete.
