A respirator “passes” down the long corridor of the “Banjica” Orthopedic Institute. The wheel rolls. A white spacesuit pushes him, the big door opens. A huge scanner is waiting.
– Give me an extension – yells a “spacesuit”
– The white, right there – the other will do it.

The third holds the hose. They all remembered. They attach a respirator. Patients from the intensive care unit arrive for a lung scan. And those intubated upstairs in the intensive care unit will be hooked up to a mobile ventilator, brought upstairs, and then hooked up to this machine. That they are alive while they are filmed. And they saw how far the crown had come. What else did she destroy? Or maybe they held her down a bit …
The monitor turns on. The straight lines are waiting for someone to “stick”.
– Corridor, corridor!
A bed arrives followed by an oxygen bottle. The ventilator will wait for the next patient. To this, semi-conscious, the bottle gives air. His head fell to the side. He is tied to the bed. Part of the crown becomes aggressive. There is no oxygen, there is no reason.
– Hey, there’s a magnet left here.
– Untie it.
– All unleashed?
– Oh now. One two Three! Oh y!
Metal gates
He succeeds. It is located under a huge “dome” of the scanner. Door is closing …
We are moving up. In intensive care. The metal door, like an elevator, opens … It screams and flashes in all directions. To the left of the winter operating room. Now there are respirators, oxygen … and those who know and those who don’t know what happened to them. But none of them know what awaits them. No one with this devil knows what the end is … They are all fighting. Everyone gives more than they can …
Very intense. Two rows of beds, three of them, four consciously. The rest between this and that world, in a respirator. Dobanovac’s Zeljko Ivanovic (61) is seeing all of that on the fifth day. Diabetic.
– I can breathe now. I’ve already hit 93 saturation, and dropped to 60. I think I went in and out, but we’ll see. And my voice came back. Congratulations to these young people. They fight and do their best to save someone’s life. You should appreciate when someone wants to help you now – says Zeljko.
His life has returned, but a new “torment” haunts him.
– I’m hungry. And they don’t give a man anything to eat. We have a cup of something, I have no idea what it is. I was hungry.
His gaze went to his “roommates”.
– It is very sad …
At that moment, all the spacesuits ran.
– Faster Faster …
The heaviest wave
In the box at the bottom, everyone shines. Resuscitation.
– Now they give him those shocks. And so day and night. It’s hard for me to say what I’ve seen, Željko will.
In that box you only saw spacesuits around the bed, intense from below. And two arms that go up and down evenly. They raise and lower the defibrillator … They’re trying to bring that body back to life.
– You’re watching and you can’t help it. Sadness and only sadness … – Željko shook his head. They come out of the box. One by one.
– The resuscitation was successful. It is a constant struggle. Unfortunately, that’s the way it is every day: Dr. Svetlana Dinić, head of anesthesia, tells the story on the run, while answering the phone for an emergency call.
Walk to the intense bottom. Spin the circles. Here she is again.
– I have the impression that in this third wave, patients are the most difficult. The virus surprises us every time. We fight by all means. Our numbers are limited and our strengths are limited. Resuscitation has now been successful. But it is very uncertain how everything will be in the end – he says as he returns to that box.
That heavy metal door opens. The martyr returns from the scanner. United. Operating theater address. That’s where it belongs. The next step is to take them to the scanner. And we also have time to move.
Maše Željko. Masha and Sean, that’s what he says in his spacesuit. They pose for us until the end. Smiles among living corpses … Horror you can’t see. And the horror when everyone must be aware … Because each of us can be one of them. He is not alive, he is not dead. On the road whose end no one lives knows …
No kidding with the rules to bare skin
The march towards the red zone of “Banjica” begins to undress to naked skin. Nothing is left to chance, namely the crown. You get a white t-shirt and green pants, then you head to the red zone. And there, in front of the entrance, hundreds of pairs of slippers, shoes, slippers, clogs … – All employees have shoes for the green and red zone – explains Suzana Maksimović, chief nurse of the General Orthopedic Service II. She is our wonderful host, she explains everything to us. Nikola dresses us in spacesuits, he’s only 20 years old, he’s been a volunteer since March. Now he has a job. Everything is done with a smile. One shoe, another, a pair of gloves, another, even a third! And duct tape around his arm, so he doesn’t move anything. He even fastens a spacesuit hat. We are not a millimeter to move. You go to the red zone … And going out is “bare skin”. You throw everything away, they give you a “sterile” coat and slippers, a shower cabin, and only then do you collect your things in the green area. Seriously.
Snezana Matejic Fever
Snezana Matejic (73) is diabetic and asthmatic. He’s on oxygen. – I think I got infected in the elevator. I live in a lonely 23 story in Banjica, only one elevator works and there are many infected people. I wore a mask all the time, but it’s not worth it. The fever started. And every part of everyone here cares about us – says Snezana and adds that her daughter is also infected, but, fortunately, she is at home because she has a mild picture.
Prof. Dr. Zoran Baščarević Help us treat you
Prof. Dr. Zoran Baščarević, director of “Banjica”, recalls that in early December, for the third time, they opened for the kovid system, which now have 27 places in the intensive care unit and a total of 125 beds in the hospital, that are full: – The disease is in a bad mood. There are 90-year-olds who come and go healthy and 40-year-olds who fight for their lives for a month and end up failing. It attacks the kidneys, the brain, the blood vessels and the heart … Each subsequent wave becomes harsher, the clinical pictures become more difficult and the number of patients is increasing. There is no health system in the world that can treat its entire population in hospitals! People should understand that. I don’t know why they don’t stay home. People, help us so we can heal you. Close families, go out to work and supply family, not to go out!
Zlatko, X-ray technician Zlatko – Korona 2: 0
I’m already leading 2: 0 against the crown! I hit her twice, X-ray technician Zlatko told us, who says she got infected for the first time in July and started work a week ago after the second crown.
