This is what Katarina Ilić, a policewoman from the Obrenovac Police Station Intervention Patrol told “Novosti”, without hiding tears of joy.
According to Katarina, around 8 at night a call came from the hospital stating that the girl Milja P. (23) had arrived at the ward, who was first said to be bleeding, but that after the examination it was determined that she had light a few hours before:
– The leader of the patrol Zeljko Lukic, my colleague Mile Bursac and I went to the mother’s apartment. The call was sent from the hospital, where the girl said she gave birth in the apartment, and that her mother Branka dumped the baby in a container.
The police patrol was the first to arrive at the Kralja Milutina 21 building, followed by the ambulance.
– We got out of the vehicle and immediately went to the containers, of which there are many in this area. We began to comb the surroundings. Many people gathered that night in front of the building, so the leader of the patrol had to silence them so that we could hear the newborn. In the first container, I grabbed a bag. I saw a lot of bloody towels, pads and underwear. I immediately addressed the driver from the ER with the words, “Look, it must be here somewhere.”
By this time, Katarina’s classmates had already gone up to the fifth floor of the building and knocked on the mother’s family door.

“Grandma left the apartment first,” says Katarina. – A colleague asked her who was in the apartment, and she replied that she, her husband, her daughter and her son from her first marriage were there. Then a colleague asked where his daughter was. The grandmother began to murmur something, and a colleague said to her: “We know everything, we know that your daughter was born. Where is the baby?” Baba first said that his daughter threw her away, and a little later he admitted to the police that he had.
Meanwhile, hearing what happened on the first floor of the building, Katarina runs towards the containers again, followed by an ambulance worker:

Branko P. (61) from Obrenovac, who is charged with the attempted aggravated murder of his newborn grandson, a girl who was found in a container, was transferred to the SUPERIOR Prosecutor’s Office in Belgrade yesterday afternoon. As we discovered unofficially, he said in his defense that he thought the baby was stillborn. At the request of the competent prosecutor’s office, the court ordered her detention for up to 30 days, and the prosecution announced that the details of this case would not be made public for the protection of the minor and for the questioning of all witnesses.
– I pull the lid of the container, I touch it with both hands. It is full of garbage. At one point, I feel like something is coming out of my bag and out of my hand. The worker helps me put the container and take out the white bag and take out the baby.
Our interlocutor says that the child was blue at the time, he was moaning, but he was not crying. A colleague told him to take the newborn out of the bag and put it over his uniform.
– I massaged him and patted him on the back, and then there was the cry of a newborn. I cry too – says our interlocutor excitedly.

Subsequently, the doctor takes the rest of the discarded placenta with the umbilical cord, which was not cut, and takes the baby to the ambulance.
– I went with them. I waited for the baby to be cleaned, her airways opened, and sent to the hospital. I was very shocked. Although I am not a mother, I was filled with joy to save an innocent and newborn being. Afterward, we all cried at the station.
IN THE POLICE SINCE JULY
I was born in the seventh month, and although my mother was told that I would not survive, she fought for me to the end – says Katarina. – That’s why I wonder what kind of person someone can be, so that they can get rid of being a newborn. I started working in July of this year, but I will never forget this case.
