The Austrian government is planning measures to prevent the Serbian diaspora from traveling to the homeland, the agencies report.

Do you respect the measures against the crown?

A large number of our citizens live in Austria, who come to Serbia during the holidays.

Due to the current epidemiological situation, the Government of Vienna plans to stop these population movements this year.

The Austrian government plans to introduce stricter measures to enter the country during the Christmas holidays, which could prevent the Serbian diaspora from traveling to the homeland.

According to the media, all those entering Austria from countries with more than 100 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants will have to undergo a mandatory 10-day quarantine for a week.

The measure would affect returnees from all neighboring Austrian countries, but especially those from the Western Balkans and Turkey, where the largest immigrant communities come from.

This measure should take effect before Catholic Christmas and last until at least January 10.

People returning from countries considered risky may, according to the government’s intentions, be “released” from quarantine by a negative PCR test, but at least after five days of isolation.

In addition, Austria will introduce stricter controls at all borders and airports.

This measure is primarily aimed at dissuading Austrian residents of the Balkans and Turkey from going on vacation to their homeland during the Christmas holidays.

First of all, because of the Serbs, the Austrian government’s measure lasts until after Orthodox Christmas.

It is pointed out that the quarantine for returnees from risk regions cannot be an excuse for not coming to work after the end of the days off, says the Viennese daily “Kurir”.

Thus, people who decide to travel home would have to adjust the length of stay to days off from work, but taking into account the mandatory quarantine of ten days, or at least five days of isolation with an expensive PCR test that they would have to do in Austria.

If they cannot report to work on time, they are threatened with employment and legal consequences.

Government circles point out that this measure should prevent the third wave of infection, that is, the collapse of the Austrian healthcare system.

The Austrian Interior Ministry notes that at the end of November, Turkey had more than 31,000 new infected people and Serbia more than 6,000, with a weekly number of 100,000 inhabitants in Serbia at 711.
