Rugby 13 of the Federation of Serbia received with great sadness the news of the sudden passing of Sreten Zec (45), one of the pioneers of rugby 13 in the region.
With his inexhaustible energy and enthusiasm, Zec was the initiator of rugby 13 in Bosnia and Herzegovina, that is, the Republika Srpska.
With the help of Rugby 13 of the Federation of Serbia, in 2012 he founded the first rugby club in this part of the Balkans: Bijele Zeceva from Banja Luka, writes Telegraf.rs.
Previously, Zec played for Belgrade clubs FAK and Stari Grad, from where he passed on his passion to the younger generations of rugby in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
– With a sad heart we inform all the friends and fans of our White Rabbits club that today, sadly, Sreten, our first and biggest white rabbit, left us too soon. The driving force behind rugby in Bosnia and Herzegovina, a great man and friend. We are grateful to him for many things, he will never be forgotten. Rest in peace: the latest greetings from your official club, Bijeli Zečevi, have been officially announced. The death of Sreten Zec found all the true lovers of rugby 13 in this area.
– A sad day for the Serbian Rugby League and all 13 rugby fans in Serbia and the Republika Srpska. May he have eternal glory and praise – said Secretary General Vladan Kikanović briefly on behalf of Rugby 13 of the Federation of Serbia.
Sreten Zec’s funeral will take place on Monday November 16 (1:00 pm) at the old Jablanica cemetery.
