There are many victims, tougher measures are being considered again, there is a struggle to buy vaccines, citizens are being asked to get vaccinated, the only ray of hope that this pandemic can be stopped in the near future. However, there is a growing fear that we will have to deal with the serious consequences of this plague on the general health of the population, as it is no secret that due to kovida-19 a large number of citizens do not go to the doctor. except in an emergency or if a crown is suspected. Therefore, many doctors fear that we will soon have more cancers discovered at a late stage, when not much can be done anymore, neglected chronic diseases, decayed teeth and mental health problems.

We asked our experts how much the fear of going to the doctor at the time of the crown influenced to neglect our health, forget about preventive and control examinations, and sometimes mandatory therapy.

PROF. DR PETAR OTAŠEVIĆ, RESPONSIBLE FOR THE CARDIOLOGY CLINIC OF THE CARDIOVASCULAR DISEASE INSTITUTE “DEDINJE”: THE RISK OF INFECTION IS LESS THAN THE RISK OF EXPOSURE TO BASIC DISEASE

– In the initial phase of the pandemic, the entire health system was involved in the fight against kovid-19, so the number of appointments for outpatient examinations was significantly reduced. Subsequently, a large number of patients avoided going to regular scheduled check-ups for fear of contagion, although they could carry them out without hindrance. The consequences of not attending periodic check-ups can be very negative, since in this way we do not have knowledge of the patient’s condition, as well as the possibility of correcting the therapy or referring to additional diagnostic procedures. Therefore, I appeal to patients to see their doctors regularly, with the use of all epidemiological protective measures, because the potential risk of infection is significantly lower than the risk of worsening of the underlying disease. Given the great response to vaccination, I believe that the situation will completely normalize in the foreseeable future, at least in terms of availability and attendance at outpatient examinations – says Prof. Dr. Petar Otasevic.

PROF. DR VESNA DIMITRIJEVIĆ SREĆKOVIĆ, INTERNAL ENDOCRINOLOGIST AND PROFESSOR AT THE FACULTY OF MEDICINE IN BELGRADE: DUE TO STRESS WE HAVE MORE AUTOIMMUNE DISEASES

– Due to immobility, stress and lack of adherence to diet, a certain number of patients gained weight, which caused a worsening of glucoregulation, blood fat, jumps in blood pressure, increased parameters of liver function and increased risk of diabetic vascular complications in small and large blood vessels – says Dr. Dimitrijević Srećković.

Our interlocutor reveals that the state of stress in the last year of kovida influenced the increase in autoimmune diseases, of which Hashimoto’s thyroiditis was diagnosed more frequently, even in adolescents and students. Hashimoto’s thyroiditis in some did not present thyroid dysfunction and in some it manifested as hyperthyroidism or hypothyroidism.

– During the kovid -19 epidemic, outpatient examinations in many branches of medicine were limited and reduced, even when dealing with endocrine patients. However, I make daily inquiries online, through phone calls and messages commenting on the laboratory tests that patients send me or that arrive at my office. Based on the results received, I include or correct the therapeutic dose of insulin, oral preparations for diabetes, and preparations for the treatment of elevated or decreased thyroid function. In those who underwent COVID and who received corticosteroid treatment, we had a worsening of glucoregulation, so we hospitalized the most difficult patients after COVID and the insulin corrected.

DR. SCI NATAŠA PEJČIĆ, DOCTORATE IN MEDICAL SCIENCES-DENTISTRY: DIRTY MASKS SERIOUSLY DETERIORATE ORAL HEALTH

Research by the Institute “Trampoline” shows that less than half of the population (45.6 percent) in Serbia evaluated the condition of their teeth and oral cavity as good, and that every tenth inhabitant of Serbia, which is about 700,000 people , not having a single tooth. Knowing the attitude of our citizens towards oral health, the fear is justified that, due to the fear of going to the dentist in the years ago, but also because of the use of dirty masks, the situation can only get worse now.

– The situation with the pandemic itself indicates that the number of patients who do not present any symptoms and avoid preventive examinations has been reduced. The only worsening in oral health is what most often takes patients to the dentist, says Dr. Pejčić.

He states that they currently have a greater number of patients who go to the dentist for acute problems, such as pain and swelling.

– In addition, a greater number of patients have been noted for gum problems. These problems can also be related to the inappropriate use of protective masks, that is, prolonged use and not changing the same mask. Consequently, this leads to the alteration of the oral microflora and an increase in the number of harmful bacteria which further leads to the development of oral diseases, mainly cavities and periodontitis.

By the way, the Clinic for Psychiatric Diseases is the only psychiatric institution that deals with the care and treatment of emergency conditions, as well as all others, in psychiatry, 24 hours a day, seven days a week . PRIM. DR ALEKSANDRA KOSTIĆ, GYNECOLOGIST AND ENDOCRINOLOGIST: THANKS TO VACCINATION, WOMEN RECEIVE PREVENTIVE EXAMINATIONS AGAIN

– With the onset of the pandemic, the number of patients who attended preventive gynecological examinations was significantly reduced. Pregnant women came at the usual pace during the pandemic, unless they themselves were infected with covid. With the decrease in the number of infected people, but also thanks to vaccination, the number of women who attend preventive examinations increases significantly, says Dr. Kostić.

PROF. DR VIOLETA MIHAILOVIĆ VUČINIĆ, DIRECTOR OF THE KCS PULMONOLOGY CLINIC: 1000 PULMONARY CANCER WAS NOT DETECTED FOR FAILING TO GO TO EXAM

Estimates show that in Serbia during 2020, the number of newly diagnosed lung cancer patients was 25 percent lower compared to 2019. This means that more than 1,000 people have not been diagnosed due to a pandemic caused by the virus. covid-19, because patients do not call a doctor even when they feel certain symptoms.

The current epidemic of kovid-19 in Serbia is reaching its culmination, so all attention has rightly been directed to patients infected with the corona virus. Although the perception of health institutions has changed, the problem of other patients should not be overshadowed. People who suffer from a malignant disease are undoubtedly at greater risk of contracting covid-19, and especially those who suffer from lung cancer, the most common and deadly malignancy in the world and in our country.

– The Pneumology Clinic of the Serbian Clinical Center is the leading institution for the treatment of lung cancer in Serbia with more than 4,000 patients. However, due to the coronary virus pandemic, we have diagnosed a quarter fewer lung cancer in the last year than in previous years, which is certainly not a good thing. In addition to the health system’s focus on treating the coronavirus, fewer newly diagnosed ones certainly contribute to patients’ fear of not getting infected, says prof. Dra. Violeta Mihailović Vučinić.
