Students from the University of Belgrade (BU) demanded in today’s protest in front of the BU Rectorate that the university give written guarantees that it will oppose the European University Games to be held next year influencing the organization of the next academic year and the eviction of students from residences.

The vice-dean of students of the Faculty of Physics, Luka Bulaja, said that it is planned that for the needs of the European University Games, the entire Student City and several other residences will be evicted for a month, and some for three months, and that the students consider it “inadmissible because it is below the minimum of student rights”.

In addition, the students sent two more requests to the BU, to reduce the budget limit by six points and extend the enrollment period in the second and third grades of studies, so the additional deadline could be in October.

Bulaja pointed out that the students’ demands are mainly of a social nature and were caused by the fact that in the past period “layoffs were massively distributed and salaries were reduced”, which placed many employees in an unenviable position.

Our demands did not come ad hoc, they are our parents, the people who finance us. We ask the university to guarantee that it will oppose the crazy organization of the European University Games in 2021 during the epidemic, especially since the previous academic year was shortened due to the pandemic. “Bulaja concluded.
