As the inhabitants of the capital point out, there was a real invasion of bed bugs, both indoors and outdoors.
– The other day I was walking through Ada Ciganlija, and stink bugs attacked me from all sides. If we were on the go or sitting in a cafe. They flew nervously everywhere, they flew towards my hair … – said the student Marija K.
Although neither of the two types of bed bugs present is dangerous for humans, nor has it been medically proven that it can transmit some viruses, it is not advisable to touch them with bare hands, because in self-defense they release a stinky alcohol-based substance that may cause irritation.

The current invasion was quite expected for this time of year. That is, with the first colder days, with the drop in external temperatures, they tend to warm up. That is why they enter houses, apartments, cracks, looking for a place where they can take their surname.
– During cold days and winter, they take refuge in the heat. And the reason there are so many lately is that they have no natural enemies in this area. Birds and lizards mainly feed on them, now we have to wait for nature to regulate them – said once the dean of the Faculty of Biology, Dr. Zeljko Tomanovic.
Two species have been recorded in our area: marble and the Ethiopian green bug.
– The marble stink bug is currently more numerous than this other species. It came from Southeast Asia to Europe, where it was registered for the first time in 2004. It was found in our country in 2016, which does not mean that it was not there before – explained Professor Tomanović.

Stink bugs are hard to fight.
– The best form of prevention are networks. They often go towards the light, so it is the safest way not to enter through the window. There was no point in spraying them with anything. First of all, it is not a healthy and permanent solution because they will always come back again and again. It is impossible to spray all the plants for this reason, and there is no certified preparation, since they are present in our country for a very short time.
Similar characteristics characterize another species, the Ethiopian green bug, which is also native to Asia. It arrived in Europe a little earlier, in the 90s of the last century, while it was first registered in Serbia about ten years ago. Although they are usually green, they can also be brown and are currently less present in our country than the marble stink bug.
