United Branch Trade Unions Nezavisnost President Zoran Stojiljković said that two-thirds of Serbia’s population are poor, with a quarter directly in the poverty zone.

“It is a difficult space to bear, where you cannot bear the extraordinary cost of 100 euros, or pay for a summer vacation, that is, where you are forced to make daily decisions between the things that you really need,” said Stojiljković.

When asked how he commented on the fact that Prime Minister Ana Brnabić’s presentation did not mention the growing social differences among the citizens of Serbia, Stojiljković said that the political expositions were a list of desirable promises made without sufficient quality guarantees and precisely set deadlines.

“As a rule, they avoid unpleasant events, the analysis of which shows that the rich get richer while, at best, the poor remain equally poor,” said the president of Nezavisnost.

According to him, Serbia is a “not particularly successful and happy case” of a society in which modest growth goes hand in hand with increasing inequalities, but also widespread poverty.

“The feeling of hopelessness and the desire to leave Serbia are logical results,” Stojiljkovic said.

When asked if it is okay for the prime minister to boast about raising the minimum wage, which cannot meet even the most basic needs of the people, Stojiljkovic said governments that are “doomed” to short terms and maneuvering in a confined space are logically aimed at marketing hype. and moving the promised results into the future.

“Prime Minister Brnabić quickly mastered this key political skill, which is not particularly convincing, but it is enough to maintain the confidence of the gullible,” Stojiljković said.

When asked if it was a good decision to appoint an epidemiologist to head the Ministry of Labor, Social Affairs and Veterans Affairs, Stojiljkovic said that he hoped that the work of Darija Kisic Tepavcevic would be useful.

“If there was no place for Professor Kisić Tepavčević in the health department due to the program made up of influences and interests, then as a reward, work and social protection were a logical second option,” said the president of Nezavisnost.

When asked if she thinks that Kisic Tepavcevic, as an epidemiologist, will be able to contribute to the protection of labor rights by drafting a new Labor Law, Stojiljkovic said that it is hard to believe even the most optimistic that he will, in practically a period of a year in the labor sector, staying at the same time in the health crisis headquarters, in order to enter more seriously in the zone of normalization of labor relations.

“The way out, if Aleksandar Vučić, the government and the minister want it, is in a quality social dialogue with the unions. A dialogue that must take into account, at least in a declarative way, the interests of the semi-employed majority and poor electorate before the new elections, “said Stojiljković.

When asked how he commented on the fact that a person was appointed to the head of the Ministry of Construction, Infrastructure and Transport who criticized the increase in the minimum wage, Stojiljković said that the dominant neoliberal logic of making profits does not lead to a decrease in inequality.

“Toma Momirović is the right man for the department in which the loans will be merged and in which the public money must be skillfully delivered together with the employees, happy to have kept jobs and wages,” said the president of Nezavisnost.

When asked how many people are paid less than the current average net salary, Stojiljković said that the average of 520 euros hides the fact that the most common average salary is less than 400 euros.

“So half of those who work earn up to 45,000, or only one dinar more than the value of the minimum consumer basket. That harsh reality shows how empty is the discourse that we have never been better. The conclusion that what you do it is not proof that you avoided the poverty it imposes, ”he said.

Stojiljkovic noted that the reforms were aimed at macroeconomic stability and liberalization, and not at reducing inequality and social cohesion.

He added that research and comparative analysis show that the social preconditions for happiness are a job that satisfies us and since when can we live with dignity, a safe and protected workplace and life, as well as an environment characterized by solidarity and empathy, not for general possessiveness and selfishness.

“The status of an honest worker and citizen includes self-determination and participation in the decision of one’s own destiny, as well as the right to live in a world without systemic corruption,” Stojiljkovic said.

On the contrary, he said, the vast majority of us are condemned to forced elections, surviving from first to first, accessing the logic “be happy that you have that job and don’t say hello, forget about ideals because it is for the naive and install and join up”. where necessary. “

“To get out of the labyrinth in which we rotate between fear and apathy on one side and pride and greed on the other side of the social pyramid, we must first believe that there is a way out. Put a finger on the forehead, and then give the first step, “he concluded. is the president of UGS Nezavisnost, Zoran Stojiljković.
