The vice president of the Popular Party, Zdravko Ponos, said tonight that the battle for electoral conditions should be led jointly by the parties that boycotted the elections, because “only they have credibility,” considering that they “kept their word with the citizens.”

“Those who went to the polls are unacceptable to us, because if they had skipped the three percent threshold, today (Serbian President) Aleksandar Vučić would have pierced his ear with them like with a key ring, as he does today with ( the president of the Serbian Patriotic Union) “Aleksandar Šapić and (Minister of Human and Minority Rights and Social Dialogue) Gordan Čomić”, said Ponoš as a guest on “Impression of the Week”.

Ponos said that the “introduction into the game” of the Free Citizens Movement (PSG) is like “laundering the diplomas obtained in Megatrend by completing a master’s degree in a state university”, since that party first agreed to boycott the elections, and then surrender then the census has been lowered.

“This destroys the credit that we only have, and that is because we gain value by boycotting. We believe that it is better to stand alongside those who boycotted the elections. “And we have nothing against those who went to the polls supporting the electoral platform,” said Ponos.

Ponos appreciated that the United Opposition of Serbia (UOPS) “does not give a pulse at the moment, but that it is not dead”, as well as that it is “ungrateful to declare (its) death”.

“UOPS has ten members, that cooperation format is blocked and, unfortunately, it is not functional,” said Ponos.

The vice president of the Freedom and Justice Party (SAA), Borko Stefanović, said that the situation in the UOPS was “difficult”, but that it “will not fail”, as well as that the cooperation of those parties “will not stop in any sense”.

Stefanović assessed that, instead of discussing whether PSG is fit to participate in the work of UOPS, it is much more important to create conditions for free elections.

“They don’t have that opportunity now.” The last thing we should think about is our divisions … Now we have a struggle for a naked life, we cannot afford to think if all the agreements have been respected (opposition representatives ) … No one ‘s power or vote should be ignored, “Stefanovic said.

He added that PSG is not in the UOPS, but that they are “working to gather a broader front” of opposition parties, which will send requests to the authorities for the depoliticization of Serbian radio and television and the improvement of electoral conditions.

“Everyone should be involved in developing these conditions.” The boycott yielded extraordinary results. People who feel suspicious that (in the UOPS) there are now people who did not endorse their signature (in previous elections) should know that cooperation is necessary … It is natural for people to feel betrayed by the PSG that went to the polls, but “As politicians, we have no right to feel uncomfortable,” said Stefanovic.

He also stated that politicians must express the anger of the people and that electoral conditions will change either because of pressure from the European Union or “if 100,000 people take to the streets.”

He cited as an example the former prime minister and chairman of the Democratic Party Zoran Djindjic, who during the formation of the Serbian Democratic Opposition also spoke with people who participated in the government of Slobodan Milosevic.

“Serbia has nothing to do with the fact that we are right or that I feel uncomfortable.” Many of those organizations (who went to the polls) admitted their own ramblings and mistakes, “Stefanovic said, adding that many of them they would withdraw their decision to go to the polls.

Novi Sad Law School professor Bojan Pajtić said that the opposition has neither the manpower nor the infrastructure in the current situation, and that it only has the credibility that it won in the last elections, referring only to the parties that boycotted the process.

“UOPS as a structure” should be the backbone of the opposition that will act together. Why would anyone trust parties that have trampled on their word? What can the opposition threaten? Just a boycott. It caused a total collapse of the government’s credibility, so (Serbian President Aleksandar) Vučić announced new elections on the same day. “And now, instead of using that credibility, the opposition seems to lose it if they fight,” Pajtic said.

He also said that he doubted the intentions of the parties that collected significantly more signatures than votes for the proclamation of electoral lists, or the intention of the parties that pledged to boycott the elections, which later participated in them.

“If the opposition has something, it is a map of the credibility of the parties for which Vučić did not collect signatures, which they did not sign and therefore violated the Agreement with the people,” Pajtić said.

He affirmed that the parties that boycotted the elections also renounced everything that has a parliamentary nature, such as more secure financing, and that two columns must be formed for the next elections, one of which would be composed exclusively of those who did not boycott the previous process. .

Responding to the need to form the broadest possible front on the example of DOS, Pajtić claimed that the performance of that coalition was the same “as its composition.”

“It quickly fell apart because it was not consistent.” They realized too late that in 2000, that coalition would have won even without the parties that cooperated with then-President Slobodan Milosevic in previous cycles, “Pajtic said.
