Stefanović reacted to accusations that members of the army had no place at the patriarch’s funeral

Today, the Deputy Prime Minister of the Government of Serbia and the Minister of Defense, Nebojsa Stefanovic, reacted to allegations that he abused the army at Patriarch Irinej’s funeral in the Temple of Saint Sava.

– The Ministry of Defense and the Serbian Army are always with their people, both in all difficult moments, such as when we participate in the organizational preparations for the funeral of His Holiness Patriarch Irinej, as on all other occasions, for what we are one of the institutions. in which the citizens of our country trust the most – says Stefanović.

The minister emphasized that it was “superfluous to comment on the attacks on members of the army” who formed the honorary ranks and carried the coffin with the earthly remains of His Holiness.

– This shows how little the authors of this text understand the connection between the army and the people, as do the political authors of these attacks against the army and the Serbian Orthodox Church. At the same time, I shouldn’t even remind you that the army also has a chief military priest, a chief military chaplain, and a military imam. Pay equal attention, with full impartiality, to all religions and fully respect freedom of religion, Stefanović announced. The Serbian Atheists Association previously asked Stefanović to apologize to the citizens for the abuse of the army during the patriarch’s funeral, because they believe that in this way the Constitution and the Law of the Serbian Army were seriously violated.
