“The speculations that appeared in the public opinion that there was an idea to dismiss thousands of professionals from the Serbian army, and about the idea of considering the introduction of compulsory military service, are an absolute lie,” said the minister, as reported by the press service of the Ministry of Defense.

He noted that not only are there no plans to lay off professionals in the military, but there are plans to hire new ones, as well as a significant increase in salaries.

“Serbian army employees will receive this year, in addition to the five percent increase that everyone receives, and an additional 10 percent, of which the soldiers with the lowest salary will receive more,” Stefanović said.

“I have said it many times and I will repeat it: the strength of the Army is its people,” said the Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister, adding that he would invest not only in higher salaries for the soldiers, but also in their equipment and working conditions. .

Likewise, he affirmed that in parallel it will continue to consider detailed work on the idea of introducing regular military service, which does not represent any reason for the dismissal of soldiers.

“We want a strong, strong, equipped and well paid Army, because only that army is a guarantor of the stability and security of Serbia, and we will fight for that,” concluded Stefanovic.
