Some students will still return to school. The Minister of Education, Mladen Šarčević, explains when the new school calendar is valid.
Minister Šarčević said, as a guest in Belgrade Chronicle RTS, that the time we have ahead runs its course, the virus disappears and that what doctors and crisis personnel must follow must be followed.
“We have made a quality strategy for the whole story, distance learning ends at the end of May, for all levels of education, so we have avoided the massive gathering of children and students in classrooms and amphitheatres,” said Sarcevic .
He says that when regular classes end, not all obligations are met. “Everything that could have been done online has been done,” the minister stressed.
He recalls that there are certain students who theoretically cannot complete exercises, as in the field of medicine, technique, then painters, sculptors.
“If we do it through a good time course, if we do it in safe conditions and with fewer people present, then we will do what was expected of us,” said the Minister of Education.
Who comes to school and who does not?
He points out that students in grades one through four in elementary schools do not have to attend schools, because the rulebook on assessment has changed.
“The rule book gave us the legal possibility that, in addition to the three quarters of grades that were in the newspaper in the third quarter and semester, we regulated only the number of grades, for the last quarter we were offered to do a formative evaluation , everything the candidate can do independently “The analysis showed that three-quarters of the teachers and students did well, and the teachers certainly did well,” said Sarcevic.
“All the wolves and great students worked on projects, we are halfway through the reform, and people have learned a lot, if you give a group of children certain tasks, they do a project, that’s a higher level of learning “notes Šarčević.
Since teachers are the only evaluators, they were able to translate all the models they practiced during distance learning into a numerical grade, and therefore the number of needs to attend school was minimized, says the Minister of Education .
Šarčević says that it is important for schools to have a small number of students: everything that happens from June 1st is done from eight in the morning until eight at night, everyone will be invited at intervals, there will be a break so that unable to socialize and instructions were received from the school principal.
“I think this will be done correctly,” believes Sarcevic.
“The eighth grade is a generation that has a small graduation, the dates do not change, but other obligations change, because we did not want to see the children at school in May, as in some countries, where parents will not return their children” , said.
What happens on June 1
Eighth grade students are scheduled to come to school on June 1, if there are five classes, they will take turns for one hour each: to register for graduation, bring flyers, photos, print it out, take two tests home that they will do independently because they have nothing to do, said the minister.
“Good pedagogical models have been tried, we are doing a study with the Institute of Pedagogy and the Quality Institute, and we will have good results that we can use,” says Sarcevic.
Explains that eighth graders have to take those two tests on their own at home, the online test was self-tested, closed-type assignments were assigned, there will be a half and a half on the actual graduation exam, so kids can see it. and verify it. The model was made to be inspected “on foot” or by software, and scanners were sent to all school administrations and to Kosovo and Metohija.
“The printing press, which was provided through the Prime Minister’s office, is at the Quality Institute, and proofs, principal proofs and reserves have been printed and cannot be divided into them. A small number of children will work at the classroom, “says Sarcevic.
He recalls that the tests were previously reviewed only with a teacher from another school, which was not effective.
Last year, a small pilot was working to hold the school accountable for whether or not they copied. “We will send supervisors, you will have five, six students. When the true graduation arrives, there is no one, they are all gone,” says the minister.
What happens on June 2
On June 2, the children come again at intervals and bring two solved tests, to feel the homework, and they will do math at school and see how the tests look in the correct way for June 17, 18 and 19.
Šarčević explains that the first and second child are in school around that, the third, fourth and fifth of June: eighth graders have to improve some grades, the sixth compulsory preparation begins, they will be online on Saturdays and others days they can go to school in small groups. You will receive any type of support.
“The fifth, sixth and seventh – they will use the second and third week, they will have eight days for all the processes, only those who want or who the teacher says – you have to come, and it is approximately 20 percent of the students – they will come. If someone thinks it’s him he’s not in the crowd, he’s eight days apart, we take care of everything, “says Šarčević.
“It is a source of pride for the teachers who showed much more skills than the planned system could do. We offered the highest level of education to the children, we did most of the work,” Šarčević concluded.
High School Student Schedule
He says that the preparations for voting in schools are on June 20, the exams will be completed on 22, the results will be on 23, so we go to the regular procedure: wish list, first round, second round.
As for high school students, the minister explains that fourth year students come during the first three days to improve their grades, at different times, with different teachers.
He points out that on June 4, 5 and 6, they are defending their graduation exams and have a defense of their work, and from June 6, they will dedicate themselves to preparing for admission to studies, on June 24.
“The first, second and third years, as well as the fifth, sixth and seventh grades, come at different times and finish what they did not finish, those who do not want to succeed, have a 75 percent rating, it is not necessary. We have preserved the system and the process itself improved, small graduation exams will be promoted, “said Šarčević.
In the end, he said he would talk about the prom at another time when he had better information.
