Testing of our collective immunity to the coronavirus has begun, and the first family was tested in Belgrade on Monday. The study leader, a professor at the Tatjana Pekmezović School of Medicine, said 7,000 families were scheduled to be evaluated in late June.
She said that the invitations of the families for the test have started, which will be done in the coming days, and that the response from the citizens is satisfactory. – This necessary research is a strong recommendation from the WHO, which gave a methodology to make the results comparable in various countries – Pekmezovic told RTS, adding that some citizens are concerned, and some fear they will become infected if they are to undergo tests, so those who are undecided have two or three days to think, consult with relatives or a chosen doctor.
He indicated that the investigation would determine the level of antibodies against the virus. – If there are antibodies, it means that the person has been in contact with the virus and has been immunized against the disease. How long that time is is an unknown and one of the most important questions for future research. If there are no special antibodies, it means that it is sensitive and adheres to preventive measures, Pekmezović said.
If the family that lives in the town agrees to participate in the study, and for some reason cannot go to the competent public health institute, the institute team will go out into the field.
Throughout the test, citizens will complete three questionnaires. The first aims to see what is the transmission of the virus in the family if someone was positive, the second to see if people have had possible problems with coronary heart disease, while the third assesses how aware people are of the possibility of become infected.
