SOLUTION WITH AGREEMENT WITH SERBS IN KIM: Text by the Russian Ambassador Alexander Botsan-Kharchenko for “Napredak”

We will pay special attention to the situation of the autonomous province of Kosovo and Metohija within Serbia. Talks about future mutual relations between Belgrade and Pristina can only be successful if international law, legitimate interests and concerns of Kosovo Serbs are strictly respected. The parties themselves must agree, and it is counterproductive to force “final normalization”, to impose prescriptions and pre-established deadlines.

This opinion on the resolution of the Kosovo problem, in the text of the author of “Napredak”, the SNS magazine of political theory and practice, was presented by the Russian ambassador to Serbia, Aleksandar Bocan-Kharchenko.

He also said that “Russia is determined to develop cooperation in a wide range of directions” and that “confidential political dialogue at the highest level gives it the key importance.”

– WE START with the fact that the EU, which was authorized by the UN General Assembly to mediate in the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina, must fulfill its obligations impartially and effectively and strive to achieve the agreements reached previously, which the Kosovar Albanians ignored openly today. The formation of the Association of Serbian Municipalities and the resolution of problems related to refugees and internally displaced persons are of utmost importance.

We have nothing against Serbia in the Union

– RUSSIA has never prevented the intentions of the Balkan countries, including Serbia, to join the EU. It is important that this does not harm our bilateral relations, says Ambassador Kharchenko.

We will support all efforts that help Belgrade and Pristina to reach a robust, sustainable and mutually acceptable solution. As the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin has repeatedly stressed, Russia will only agree to the solution that satisfies the Serbs who defend their legal rights in Kosovo and Metohija.

Ambassador Bocan-Kharchenko adds in the text:

– DURING a recent meeting with Serbian leader Aleksandar Vucic in the Kremlin on June 23, Putin noted “of a special nature, very good allied relations” between our countries. Our peoples are united by historical, spiritual and cultural-civilizational closeness, sincere sympathy and mutual respect, as well as a centuries-old brotherhood in arms. Moscow and Belgrade are cooperating effectively in various international fora, including the UN, the OSCE and the Council of Europe.

Dynamic and successful, strictly within the framework of international law, Russian-Serbian military-technical cooperation is strengthening. Despite the coronary virus pandemic – large infrastructure and energy projects of the NIS joint venture, “Russian Railways” and “Silovije masini”, the volume of trade last year amounted to more than 2.5 billion US dollars. The two sister churches, the Russian Orthodox Church and the Serbian Church, are developing a dialogue aimed at maintaining harmony in the Orthodox world and promoting peace. The true symbol of our strong spiritual unity is the magnificent Temple of Saint Sava, and the Russian side has made a significant contribution to interior design.

In an article in “Napredak” magazine, the Russian ambassador also talks about Belgrade’s policy towards Moscow:

– We highly appreciate the responsible and sovereign policy of Belgrade aimed at preserving military neutrality. An important stage is the conclusion, in June this year, of the Russian-Serbian intergovernmental agreement on cooperation in the fight against terrorism. The Russian-Serbian humanitarian center in Nis contributes effectively to eliminating the consequences of natural disasters, works on demining and organizes the preparations of rescuers and firefighters.
