At Lake Potpećko, near Priboj, where Lim accumulated huge amounts of garbage about ten days ago, trials have begun to clean up this accumulation.
Today, an excavator was delivered to the dam of the “Potpeć” hydroelectric power station to “practice” the technical details of removing garbage from the water, and on Monday a demanding and extensive cleaning action should begin, organized by “Elektroprivreda Srbije” and “Srbijavode”.
Until then, as could be heard today in Potpeć, several large ships will arrive here from Belgrade, driving debris scattered across the lake to the dam, within reach of a bucket of excavators.
According to Siniša Laković, president of the “Priboj” Rafting Club, the Priboj rafters will also take part in the action, using motor boats to remove rubbish from smaller bays that cannot be entered by large boats.
Due to the sharp rise in the water level of Lima, which brought in garbage from the city’s unhealthy and many illegal dumps from five municipalities in Montenegro, and the dumps in Brodarevo and Priboj, Lake Potpećko from December 30 looks like a floating dump . It is currently estimated to be about 20,000 cubic meters and that there is about nine hectares of lake area below it next to the dam at Potpeć.
