“We went through a period that was relatively dry during November, so the trend of dry weather will probably continue,” Đurđević said.
According to him, that does not mean that we will not have precipitation, but on average it will be less during winter than usual, so it is possible that occasionally we will have a greater amount of precipitation and a cold period with perhaps more snow.
– If we look at the whole winter, on average, it shouldn’t be a terrible cold winter with lots of snow, people are often fooled by the occasional change in weather when something changes drastically relative to an average – Đurđević pointed out.
When we say mild winter, we are talking about a period of three months, and not individual episodes as possible.
The climatologist points out that when we say terrible winter, we also have periods of ten days in which the temperature is below zero and we have freezing days, when the daily maximum temperature does not exceed zero.
It became continuous for ten days with low temperatures, which is possible this winter: the seasonal forecast shows that the winter will be a little warmer compared to the long-term average, but the medium and short-term forecast should be monitored day by day. we would know if that period were to be prepared.
New year time
Last year at this time there was no snow either, in 2018 there was. Tomorrow it will be 12-15 degrees, but sleet for the weekend.
Đurđević says that after the warmer part there will be cooling, while during the weekend there are chances that we will have sleet; there is probably a better chance that the snow cover will remain in the south, but after that comes the thaw period.
– Before the New Year itself, we will probably not have snow when we talk about the lowlands, it will probably remain in the mountains, says Đurđević.
The pause in a slightly warmer climate, which will be for the weekend, will be brief, it will not continue afterwards, the climatologist emphasizes.
Is it true: when summer is not extremely warm, winter is mild?
Professor Đurđević says it is a belief: “we would not pay attention to it.”
All seasons became warmer than average in the middle of the 20th century, so this summer, although it was mild in some respects, we did not have periods with temperatures above 35 degrees, the summers have changed.
– If we go back to the 80s, they were colder – says Đurđević.
These days, the air smells of winter.
“Air quality is not something we can be proud of,” he said.
Many cities have too many days when there is an overflow, Đurđević notes, adding that this is a serious problem, also in Belgrade. Yesterday and today, the air quality in Belgrade was relatively good because the basket was blowing, so the air cleared, Đurđević emphasized.
