Slobodan Cvejić stated today that he resigned from the post of member of the Council of the Regulatory Body of Electronic Media (REM) due to the way in which Olivera Zekić was elected president of the REM Council, that is, violation of democratic procedures in the Council.
Slobodan Cvejić, Senior Lecturer at the Faculty of Philosophy, resigned after less than 11 months at the Electronic Media Regulatory Body (REM).
Cvejic was elected to the Council as a candidate of the Committee on Culture and Public Information of the Assembly of AP Vojvodina on February 14, with the support of 129 votes of deputies.
Cvejić confirmed the decision to leave REM today for H1.
He said that in the REM session this Monday, despite the agenda announced three days earlier, the president proposed to complement the agenda by electing the president of the REM Council, which, as he said, is regular and possible, but it is not good for a subject as important as the election of the President of the Council to be inserted in such a way.
As he explained, he and Judita Popović immediately presented those circumstances to the president, but he “pretended to be deaf” to that, and other members of the Council did not react to that circumstance, but instead voted to put it on the agenda.
“In the discussion, he proposed that Olivera Zekić be the new president, and we proposed Višnja Arandjelović, and that moment exposed all the absurdity of such actions.” He asked us if we asked for his consent, and just two minutes ago that agenda item was proposed, all the other REM members voted for this election, it was a drop that broke the glass, “Cvejić said.
He stated that after 10 months the positions of all members of the Council were revealed, that is, their willingness to accept a “brutal and unprecedented violation of democratic procedures in the Council.”
“I no longer have a way to fight in the Council. I was willing to remain in the minority, there were several attacks, it was not that important, but I will not accept a way of making decisions other than democratic.” But since that cannot be done, I will no longer sit on that Council, “Cvejic said.
Cvejić specified that he does not care which candidate was chosen, but is opposed to the way it was done.
“If it’s your proposal, I can’t have anything against it, but propose something so important in the session itself, reject another proposal, do it violently … the only thing I can blame on the presidents is that I would never accept it. That way I will be. elected. “Obviously, they agreed in advance how many votes they will have, it could have been regular,” says Cvejić.
He said that there was a reason to stay in REM, but that it was no longer possible for him to fight for the goals in that body, and asked how REM could contribute to the democratization of the country if it could not hold elections in a democratic way.
Cvejic also said that the problems at REM are numerous, adding that Judita Popovic is probably “very right” when she says that decisions are made outside that body.
“I have no evidence for that, but it can be concluded indirectly,” Cvejic said.
Let us remind you, just five days ago, Olivera Zekić was re-elected as a member of the REM Council for five years, and then voted for the presidency of this body on December 21.
On the occasion of the resignation of Slobodan Cvejić, the aforementioned Olivera Zekić also announced, stating that REM “did nothing against the law, nor against normal and democratic principles.”
“I hope there are no political reasons behind this act by Mr. Cvejić, because it would be indecent, and would put into question the reasons for his joining the regulatory body and everything he has done so far,” Zekić said today.
