There are still many unknowns and a large part of the public is not yet familiar with the mass vaccination aspect. Epidemiologist Predrag Kon answers all questions.
Namely, the President of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić announced today that vaccination will start tomorrow. It also revealed details of the first dose of 4,875 vaccines. The other news is that another 20,000 doses of the aforementioned vaccine will arrive at the beginning of January, and the Immunization Plan has already been carried out. However, it appears that a large part of the public is unaware of the mass immunization procedure itself.
All storage conditions are met
The way in which vaccines are made, stored, transported, stored, distributed is determined by the manufacturer, and our country will comply with everything they ask for.
This information was confirmed by the director of “Torlak”, Dr. Vera Stoiljković.
When asked if Torlak would be in charge of storing the Pfizer vaccine, which requires special storage conditions at -80 degrees Celsius, and if there is a plant where it can be stored and distributed, the director said in an interview with Politika. ”He replied as follows:
– The “Torlak” Institute has a certificate of the cold chain, so that, accordingly, it knows the storage possibilities of all types of vaccines at different temperature regimes. With the help of the Government of the Republic of Serbia, the Ministry of Health, the World Health Organization, these capacities will be improved in time and will be ready for the receipt, storage and distribution of vaccines – said Dr. Stoiljković.
6 hours from reconstitution to application
After that, it remains to clarify all the steps from storage to vaccination of citizens. This procedure was explained in detail by epidemiologist Predrag Kon.
– The procedures for this, the Pfizer vaccine that is currently available to us, are extremely complicated. It must be very well coordinated between the different links in the chain. There is a specific way to pack, unpack, dissolve, distribute … – explains Dr. Kon.
It says that from the moment the -80 degree vaccine is removed, while it is stored, it must be delivered to the user within five days.
– However, since it dissolves, a maximum of 6 hours must elapse before the citizen is vaccinated – warns the epidemiologist.
Vaccination by checkpoints
It also says that the organization of work will be complicated, and that the points where the vaccination will take place must be determined.
When asked who will vaccinate us, Dr. Kon replied:
– There are already health workers in health centers who are dedicated to vaccination throughout the year. I think that at the beginning they will be the ones who will vaccinate the citizens. They are medical technicians trained in immunization. Of course, the vaccination will be done in the presence of a doctor who will supervise your work, concludes Dr. Kon.
Immunization starts tomorrow
The first citizens of Serbia will receive tomorrow at 11:00 am the “Pfizer” vaccine, which was delivered to our country yesterday.
– We’re leaving now. ALIMS received samples of other vaccines, they will continue to do their job and then we expect larger quantities. The vaccine is salvation, the vaccine saved humanity, if it did not exist, some other diseases would not be eradicated – said Vučić.
The first doses will be received by users of the nursing homes in Belgrade and Novi Sad.
The authorities are among the first in our country to receive the Pfizer vaccine.
Tomorrow, the Prime Minister of Serbia, Ana Brnabić, and the Minister of Labor, Employment, Veterans Affairs and Social Affairs, Dr. Darija Kisić Tepavčević, will be vaccinated against the crown at the “Torlak” Institute.
