The minister confirmed that the US Development Agency will soon open an office in Belgrade, and that this means a huge boost to the economy of the entire region.
– There are three key reasons why the opening of the US Agency for Development office in Serbia is important. In the first place, in this way, the door is opened for us to cooperate in the construction of large infrastructure and investment projects, through the project financing instruments offered by that agency. Later, Serbia secured a strategic partner for further development of financial instruments to support the financing of micro, small and medium-sized enterprises and entrepreneurs. The third reason is that the opening of the office sends a strong message to US investors, as well as their protection through a wide range of services with which DFC protects them, further affecting the attractiveness of Serbia as a destination for investment. Of course, this is another confirmation that Serbia is the economic leader of the region.
The minister pointed out that it is necessary to attract as many investors as possible, and pointed out that we are going to launch large infrastructure projects thanks to the money that will come to Serbia.
– We are beginning to carry out large infrastructure projects. The completion of the road from Belgrade to Nis alone costs a billion euros. Investments in railway infrastructure are another billion euros. In addition to these projects, DFC is prepared to invest in small and medium-sized companies. They are willing to invest directly in the Serbian private sector.
Mali also highlighted the importance of the mini Schengen and the common market of the Balkan countries.
– If we reduce the waiting time for trucks at the borders, we have increased the flow of goods. We launch big infrastructure projects, then comes DFC, which is a great signal for the capital market and of course we have Mini Schengen. Pristina was against it, but we will all benefit greatly. We are the largest economy in the region and we will make huge profits.
– It is not only a question of market size due to sales, but also of attractiveness. When investors come to our region, where there are 20 million people, it is a great thing.
The minister noted that the negotiations in Washington were very painful and difficult, and that there was enormous pressure on President Vučić.
– You have all heard about the famous point 10. But we managed to fight for the improvement of Serbia. Another story is Gazivode. We, as a state, did not have a single dinar of the potential of that lake, and now we have agreed on a feasibility study, which will determine who owns it, said Minister Mali.
The minister noted that the state reacted in time to the coronavirus epidemic.
– The important thing is that we have achieved trust between the economy and the state. We have to pay two minimum wages for the newly established companies and finish helping the hotels in the city. In September and October, a budget rebalancing awaits us, and we will see what our income will be, said Minister Siniša Mali.
