About 240 patients are being treated at the “Dr Dragisa Misovic” Clinical Hospital Center, of which 70 are in intensive care units. Dr. Duška Ignjatović, chief of anesthesia, said his work is not diminishing.
He pointed out that another wave is expected after Christmas, because the shopping malls are packed to the max, people wear masks, but that’s not enough.
The clinical-hospital center “Dr Dragisa Misovic” is in the kovid system almost all the time during these 10 months of hard struggle.
The first patients were admitted in the early days of the corona virus epidemic.
In recent days, there have been fewer positive patients across the country. Doctors at many institutions say they have more layoffs than admissions.
Dr. Ignjatović points out that the work of anesthesiologists is not decreasing, around 40 patients are on some type of mechanical ventilation.
– Throughout the year they filled us to the last place, and in December we had between 30 and 50 patients who were discharged but the same number we received, until a few days ago we were full to the last bed, until it was opened the hospital in Batajnica, now it is something less – says Ignjatović.
Speaking of the age structure of patients, Dr. Ignjatović says that it is middle age – 60 years, middle age is the most common with a difficult clinical picture.
A challenging period ahead of us due to the holidays
Ignjatovic said that it is not necessary to repeat that one must be responsible, the holidays are coming, we understand the need for people to get together, but we have not stopped for a year, many doctors and nurses have gotten sick, now those teams are a little smaller, a man practically has to do the work. – The medical part does not agree with the concession – if the cafes are open until 6 pm, what is the difference between 11 pm or 6 pm – if there are many people in a place, the virus is transmitted, after Christmas we expect another wave. The malls are full to the maximum, people are crowded in the malls, they have masks, but that is not enough, we will feel it very soon – Ignjatović pointed out.

Speaking of the fight against the corona, the doctor said that it was difficult for a couple of days, because they are in a high concentration of the virus.
– The concentration of the virus in intensive care units and procedures performed by anesthesiologists are high risk, of the entire anesthesiology team, only a few people did not become ill. Fatigue does its thing, we work night shifts, immunity knocks down so much work and stress – he said.
– I have recovered, I have returned, we must have strength, there are still young people fighting for their lives – Dr. Ignjatović stressed.
Speaking of whether there was fear, he says that it was not pleasant to have a temperature of 39 for six, seven, eight days, because then everything goes through a person’s head.
– We know how the youth ended up, there were many situations where nothing could be done, there is no real cure for the crown. It was not pleasant, a couple of days, but it ended well – concluded Dr. Ignjatović.
