More than two years after the mysterious death of Svetlana Peković (27) from Kolašin, the investigation established that she was not murdered.

The girl’s disappearance was reported on July 19, 2018 and her body was found two days later in Bonići in Tivat. The body was found in a pine forest between the houses of the informal gypsy settlement “7 de julio” and the sea, and then, according to the first findings of the investigation, it was suspected that it was a suicide.

However, the family of the deceased girl stated from the beginning of the investigation that everything indicates that it was a murder.

It turned out, after more than two years, that Svetlana Pekovic de Kolasin was not killed. That is to say, that stems from the response that was delivered to “Vijesti” from the Superior Prosecutor’s Office of the State of Podgorica.

– After evaluating all the evidence collected, this prosecutor concluded that there are no grounds to initiate a criminal process against any person and for any criminal act for which she is prosecuted ex officio – it is written in the answer signed by the prosecutor Lepa Medenica.

In his reply, he also explained what was done during the investigation, in order to determine with certainty how Kolašinka died. Among other things, they turned to Serbian experts for help.

– Numerous actions were carried out during the examination, an order of medical expertise was issued by the Institute of Forensic Medicine of Belgrade, which was sent to this prosecutor’s office, after which there was a need to take other necessary actions, so that the Police requested notifications of certain people and the collection of other data, whose notifications and data have been forwarded in the meantime to this Prosecutor’s Office – it is stated in the response of the prosecutor Medenica.

The family believed that a crime had been committed.

At the beginning of the investigation, the father of the deceased girl, Zoran Peković, said that his daughter did not commit suicide, but that someone killed her. He then said that he visited the Podgorica prosecutor’s office with his brother Panta a few days after Svetlana’s body was found, and that during that conversation, his suspicions only grew stronger.

The parents of the deceased girl

– In the conversation at the Prosecutor’s Office, they told us that according to the findings that are coming – everything indicates that this is a murder, not a suicide – the girl’s father told “Vijesti” at that time.

By the way, during the long investigation, the relatives of the deceased girl repeatedly told reporters that her Seka, as they called her, did not commit suicide. They said they believed a crime had been committed against her.

– I don’t think that’s possible … Not even the place where she was found … She can’t make her alive like that – said Zoran Peković, speaking of a possible suicide.

He declined to comment on the long duration of the investigation. As he said at the time, he will await the results from Belgrade, after which he will address publicly and announce the family’s position on how the investigators handled the case, but also on how he says the omissions were made, in his opinion.

– These reports prepared by the Danilovgrad Forensic Center and this Čukićka autopsy were sent to the Belgrade Institute of Forensic Medicine, and a finding from above is expected. I was in the Superior Prosecutor’s Office 10-15 days ago and they sent me that part … Now they are on vacation, they expect the report to arrive in Belgrade there at the end of September – said Pekovic in mid-2019.

A mysterious disappearance

Kolasin’s girl worked seasonally at the “Voli” supermarket in Radanovići, and temporarily stayed in that company’s accommodation for its workers in Sutvara in Grblja.

Svetlana was last seen on July 19 in Tivat, in Kalimanj, near the Helada hotel, after which all trace of her is lost. That day, his family reported him missing and the Tivat police will begin the search.

Apparently his mobile phone signal was in a wider area of nearby Župa, which was intensively searched that night by police and firefighters, but nothing was discovered. Her mobile phone was turned off in the meantime, and the police and her family, whose members arrived in Tivat in the meantime, were searching intensively for the missing girl.

Two days later, her body was found.
