The court acquitted Švelja of the charges of sexual harassment and the protracted crime of obtaining, possessing pornographic material and exploitation of minors for pornography. The prosecution dropped the charges for three criminal offenses: displaying, obtaining and possessing pornographic material and exploiting a minor for pornography. The court also rejected the accusation of possession of drugs, because, as we learned, it is the drug “bromazepam”, which was prescribed by a doctor.
After the verdict was pronounced, the defendant’s custody was lifted, but he was not released, as he was prohibited from leaving the department with electronic surveillance. In addition, Švelji is prohibited from using the Internet, telephone, as well as receiving a minor in an apartment. You will remain under house arrest until the verdict is final.
DEFENSE AGAINST APPEAL
SWEDEN’s defense lawyer, lawyer Vladimir Beljanski, announced that he would appeal this verdict.
– When we receive a written verdict, we will file an appeal – says Beljanski, adding that he asked for acquittal for his client, while the prosecution asked for four and a half years.
The public has been excluded from the trial since the beginning of the main trial, at the insistence of the prosecution, because one of the injured parties is a minor, while the others were not of legal age at the time of the commission of the crime.
Šveljo was arrested on January 28 on the basis of a report filed against him by the police a few days earlier by a young adult, alleging that Šveljo sexually abused him and that he did the same when he was a minor.
During the search of the apartment in Novi Sad, which he used as a photographic studio, photographs were allegedly found on Švelja’s computer, and a large number of them featured minors and young adults in their underwear. Some of them, as we learn, mentioned that Šveljo painted them and that in return they received a wardrobe from him or 500 to 1,000 dinars.
