Seven televisions interrupted Trump’s speech, if such a scenario is possible in Serbia

Current US President Donald Trump has repeatedly reiterated his belief in recent days that election theft is operating in America. He said the same thing during a recent public speech from the White House, when his speech was broadcast on numerous American televisions … At least seven televisions decided to stop his speech, because, they explained, Trump made claims that were obviously false. Could such a scenario apply at home?

Can you imagine interrupting the speech of the President of Serbia if he makes unsubstantiated claims without proof?

“If we count the legal votes, I won easily. If we count the illegal votes, they are trying to steal the election …” Trump said before the broadcast of his speech was interrupted.

“Okay. Here we are again in an unusual situation, not only do we have to interrupt the president of the United States of America, but we also have to correct him …”, said the presenter.

This is how the live broadcast of Donald Trump’s speech was interrupted on several American televisions: NBC, CBS, ABC, MSNBC, CNBC, after he declared that electoral fraud was taking place. The producers of these media houses decided: the speech will be interrupted, because the current US president presented, as they explained, “for the wrong things” and because his team did not present to the public the evidence of the alleged electoral robbery.

With such action, the US media showed that they do not want unfounded statements to reach the audience. Could TV stations in Serbia emulate such a move? Can you imagine that the speeches and speeches of the representatives of the authorities are interrupted at the moment when something that is not a fact goes on the air?

Both the worst America and the America in the worst edition are better than us and incomparable with us. The fact that five or seven television networks interrupted President Trump addressing the White House in the twelfth of his speech shows that the American media is doing its job. “The situation is completely reversed, it is unthinkable, but I don’t think we can compare ourselves to that,” said Danica Vucenic, a journalist.

The H1 interlocutor refers to the investigation of “Istinomer”, which showed that 3/4 of the statements of the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, were evaluated as “false”. If, Vucenic adds, we applied the American approach, 3/4 of the statements would not be transmitted.

Is it really possible to turn off the cameras to every politician’s lie? The director of the TV show N1, Jugoslav Cosic, is convinced that different stations would answer this question differently.

“This is a very intriguing question that we also noticed on H1. We considered whether the stations, who have the right to edit their show, made a good move, because they noticed, as they say, that the president is misleading the public. On the other hand, Also serious is the question of whether it is the obligation of the media to let the president say everything he has, when they have already entered the broadcast, and then deal with what he said ”, says Cosic.

The Independent Association of Serbian Journalists says that if the Serbian media had such a level of sensitivity to “lies” and “manipulation”, there would be almost no program on television. However, there are opinions from the ranks of the journalistic profession that stopping the broadcast is not the solution.

“I’m not sure it’s a recipe: turn off the camera, lower the control, I’m more in favor of an open debate, if the journalists are already there, so: don’t just broadcast, have a conversation with that man who If you appreciate lies, ask to give the truth to the public. I am, above all, in favor of a journalistic and professional approach, “said Slobodan Stupar, a journalist.

“Unfortunately, the televisions here do not function according to their audience and they are not in the function of protecting the public interest and they are not in the function of protecting the truth, but on the contrary, protecting the president from the truth itself,” added Vucenic .

And instead of protecting the public from fake news, the impression is that most of the mass media in Serbia protect government officials not only from the truth and the public, but also from their basic function: a critical approach. and journalistic issues.
