Serbs have long respected the custom of not leaving home on such vacations, except in one place

Tomorrow, the Serbian Orthodox Church and its believers will mark the day dedicated to St. Thomas.

According to tradition, the Apostle Thomas did not immediately believe in the resurrection of Jesus. Then Jesus Christ appeared again to the disciples, and this time Tommy specifically addressed him to reach out and touch his rib so that he would no longer be unfaithful.

It is also written that Saint Thomas was the only one of the apostles who arrived late for the funeral of the Blessed Mother of God, and at his insistence the tomb was opened. Then it was seen that his tomb was empty and that the Mother of God had ascended to heaven, and that only the Holy Shroud remained in the tomb, which was later transferred to Constantinople.

Tomindan is celebrated in many places as a baptismal holiday and, depending on the number of families who celebrate it, it is the twelfth most celebrated place among Serbs.

It is celebrated by dungeons and carpenters as a guild glory, since Saint Thomas was a skilled carpenter, so they do nothing that day, but Tomindan is also celebrated by coopers, carpenters, carpenters, firemen, wells, shoemakers, masons. ..

Early Serbs say about St. Thomas that, when the saints shared roles, he removed the seal from the clouds, but that he never brings a storm, but only a precious rain. It is also believed that Saint Thomas, if he gets angry, may one day bring another flood, but as the Blessed Mother of God oversees him, it will not be anytime soon.

In some parts, Saint Thomas is believed to protect believers from wolves.

There is also an old Serbian saying “Saint Thomas, sit at home”.

It implies that on this day you are not going anywhere except to church and that is the most important custom to be respected on this day.
